REPAIR COST FOR MY PARENTS' HOME
Donation protected
My parents, Shao Fang and ShengPao Sheng, came to Williamstown, WV ,during 1958 and bought 10 acres property on a hill just outside of Williamstown, WV. At that time, Interstate 77 did not exist and this area was a very rural place but filled with a pristine and beaufiful environment. My parents fell in love with the area and with the people as well. They decided to settle in this area and built a house, called Wing Pavilion, a name taken from a Chinese poem in the Tang Dynasty, meaning bird's nest on a hill.
My parents were former apprentices of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lloyd Wright, and this house , that I grew up in, was built using Wright's organic architecture philosophy.
The funds that I am asking for your donation is to restore this unique building from deterioration and to restore into a living place to be open to the public and also to help create tourism for the Mid-Ohio Valley area.
There Is no known buildings that were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright or other apprentices in West Virginia with the exception of my parents here in Williamstown, WV.
Therefore it is urgent to start on the restoration as soon as possible. Since my parents use natural materials such as concrete, glass, wood, etc. the elements and insects of the area is taking a toll on the house.
The support of the community, the region and even the state , will mean so much to me. My parents and I always pride ourselves to be West Virgininians and Hilly Billys as well ; our house is on a hill. My mother represented West Virginia as an artist at the World Expo Pavillion in New York City in 1969. My father, a civil engineer, was retained by WV State Commissioners of Highways, William Ritchie III, durng the 1960s and 70s to design and engineer the state highways and bridges.
With your help and support in the restoration of my parents' home, this will enable for us to turn this place into a tourist attraction and also help our community as well.
I am grateful to share this with you and for your support.
America is great because we are great with and to each other.
Thank you.
