BCHS Design Team to New Orleans
Donation protected
We are a high school Career and Technical Education team that designs wind turbines for competitions. We took both first place and second place in the Virginia state KidWind competition and received an invitation to the National Championship in New Orleans in May. We are coming from a small, rural school district and will use the money to pay for part of our travel expenses. The engineering process to design these turbines has been exceptional! Our team includes members from Electricity classes, Carpentry classes, Technology Education classes and Business Education classes. We would be attending the American Wind Energy Association national convention and meeting professionals who do this every day. We would also be meeting college teams that are also going to be competing (on a different level). So far, participation in the KidWind competitions has helped our students decide on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers and has helped the students utilize skills that they are learning in the classroom (think math and physics as a start) in real world situations. To say that we would be thankful for this trip is an understatement. For some of the students this will be a life changing experience.
