THE WORLD'S LONGEST BASS SOLO
Donation protected
We are about to host the 16th annual NOW now festival. A festival dedicated to experimental, improvised, outsider, radical and absolutely incredible music.
Like most arts events on the planet, these things require funding, because although we have a great audience, we don't have a huge one. In order to put on the festival, we need to raise funds to cover some of the more basic costs - like venue hire, piano hire, promotion, and of course, artist fees.
I've decided to perform the world's longest bass solo to raise the money we need to cover our costs.
There are more than 50 artists performing at the festival, over four nights in three spaces. In a Sydney suffering from the shut-down of venues and the cultural annihilation that comes from rent-hikes, lock-outs, and all-pervasive pop-monoculture, events like the NOW now are vital.
How do we breed creativity if we can't present it?
To raise the money, i'm going to do what I was born to do, play the bass. But instead of playing a concert, I'm going to play for 24 hours, from sunrise to sunrise on January 14 - and livestream it for the world to watch. This may be painful. Actually it will be painful.
If we can raise the full $20,000 the NOW now festival 2017 and the monthly series that follows will be able to maintain the community focus that our music needs to grow.
The livestream will be hosted on YouTube at
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmlF0HrCxrrxnhNJ-bceslQ/live from dawn on January 14, 2017
Tune in from 4:51 am
