Cape Ann WWII Veterans Portrait Project
Deadline Nov 11, 2015
Thousands of ordinary young men and women from Cape Ann did the extraordinary when they answered their nation's call to duty seven decades ago. From Normandy to Iwo Jima, our parents, grandparents and great grandparents left the safety of our shores to fight for our country and our future.
To honor the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, I am currently photographing our surviving Cape Ann World War II veterans, and seek the community’s support to produce an exhibition to be displayed at Gloucester City Hall by Veterans’ Day, November 11, 2015.
Fewer and fewer of these heroes remain. Ranging in age from 87 to their late 90’s, Cape Ann’s Greatest Generation filled the ranks of every branch of service from the Army, Navy, Marines, Army Air Corps, Seabees and Coast Guard to the Red Cross, WAVEs and WACs.
This project will ensure that their stories and portraits are preserved, remembered and honored.
Your contribution will provide prints, frames and display. The estimated total cost for the exhibition of black and white portraits is $12,000.
Any funds raised above and beyond the cost of the exhibition will be donated to benefit Cape Ann veterans.
