For A childhood to cherish !!!

I believe family is the most important asset of a person.
I am hoping to raise enough funds to help my colleague Herve Blemur to buy a safe house for his family to move into. The funds raised will be used for the same. I whole heartedly thank everyone who is reading this post and donating their hardearned money to this cause.

Herve  bought this home in 1997 and during the 2011 earthquake the ground water seeped into his basement  which  was found to be contaminated with very high levels (200% above normal levels) of industrial chemicals .

The property was tested positive for contaminants, including tetrachloroethylene (PERC), a chemical used by industrial businesses as a degreaser. PERC  affects  the central nervous system, the liver, kidneys, blood, immune system, and perhaps the reproductive system. The federal Environmental Protection Agency has linked the chemical to certain kinds of cancers too.

Under current law, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is required to help Blemur remediate the property and they have spent about $750,000 removing soil and building a shed that houses water-treatment equipment.

Though the DEP is trying to provide a clean environment to this family it is not working out as the family suffers from various serious illnesses like respiratory and gastrointestinal issues apart from other issues that he is not comfortable putting on the public domain due to personal reasons.

Here is what Mount Sinai Hospital NYC concluded on the impact of the environment on his family.

“Conclusion: Given the prolonged course of remediation over the past 2 years which has yet to ensure a safe and
healthy environment for the Blemur family, as well as the stress related to placing this family through a 3rd remediation effort with no certified guarantee for long-term safety, we feel the most prudent course is to support this family in finding a permanent housing alternative. This family should not be living in a home with elevated levels of PCE, as all residences should meet NJ screening guideline levels. As pediatricians, we urge those involved in this case to carefully consider the comprehensive risks and benefits and move forward with a plan that can guarantee a safe and healthy home environment for the Blemur family as quickly as is reasonably possible.”

Now your question would be – why wouldn’t they move out??? Well the property was on sale but no one would buy a contaminated property plus he can’t afford two mortgages.

Here are some articles in the media about the issue to prove the legitimacy of the situation.
