GE16 Election DDI Cavan Monaghan

My name is Michael McDermott and I am an election candidate running for Direct democracy Ireland in the Cavan / Monaghan region. I live in Ballyjamesduff and work as a sales training manager in the automotive industry.
Many people living in the Cavan and Monaghan area won’t have heard of Direct Democracy Ireland / National Citizens Movement or even many of the smaller and newer parties that have sprung up over the last few years, but as the most progressive and people orientated party that is contesting the election, we are not some louts or street terrorists as the fine Gael led government make us out to be. We are ordinary people with ordinary lives which have been turned upside down by the policies of a government that has no interest in the welfare of its own people but has an equitable interest in keeping the EU and bankers fed and watered at the expense of the Irish people.
As a party, we are made up of doctors, dentists, accountants, business owners, car mechanics, office workers, farmers, public servants and civil servants, the unemployed, homemakers, journalists, in fact, you name it, we have it in our membership. We are individuals who formed a party to change the 100 odd years of political empire building by Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and labour by contesting this particular general election and all because this country has been taken to the brink of complete ruination by these three political parties. We as a nation need to break the stranglehold of these three parties so that you as a citizen take back control of your own futures by the use of direct democracy through the use of referendums. Switzerland have a very similar and highly successful model in place and it works like a dream!
There is an innate fear built into Irish people that political change is something to be feared. The reality is that as a nation we are continuing to vote in the same people and parties that have created this abyss that the country is teetered on. In medical terms this is defined as a form of madness as we vote every five years and expect a different outcome. The other thing is the old civil war side-taking that is still deeply buried into the Irish psyche, that allows for people to vote in the same way that their parents did in the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and finally the 00’s. Again this is utter madness as nothing changes other than to create wealthy political dynasties and families. The only people who win are the same politicians, whether they are in government or in opposition, they still win financially and you lose financially every time you vote them in.
So why am I running for election? The answer is very simple...
§ I have a wife and a very young family who need a future that is truly stable and not one that is dictated to by a system designed to enrich bankers, corrupt businessmen and politicians. I want to help build a new Ireland where our children don’t have to emigrate, where we don’t have to evict families from their homes especially when the same bankers have already been bailed out with money meant to help those same unfortunate families. DDI / NCM will put an immediate stop to the Land & Conveyancing Act otherwise known as “the eviction bill”. Families are being thrown out on the streets with nowhere to go and supported by the justice system through the courts. DDI /NCM will support the funding badly needed for social housing as a priority. People need somewhere to call home and under the constitution, we are obliged to supply them with that home. Remember that Your local Fine Gael TD (Joe O’Reilly, Sean conlan and Heather Humphreys) signed the eviction bill. They put families on the street in order to placate bankers.
§ We believe in keeping our resources for ourselves. Resources such as our own oil and gas, our own forestry, and many of the other things that this government sold to vulture funds at the behest of the Troika and IMF. By nationalising our resources, we become self reliant and create sustainable a economy and jobs that will naturally follow from it. This will have the effect of reducing energy prices and our reliance on importing oil and gas. In other words we won’t be buying our own gas and oil which is extracted from our own seas by foreign oil companies who proceed to sell it back to us a massively inflated prices.
§ We need a truly free education system that is inclusive and accessible for all of our children, no matter the background. The state spends billions of hard earned taxpayers money to export our graduates, our apprentices, our engineers, our builders. These are our children! Education is expensive but necessary, therefore we need for these same people to work here, create employment here and stop this policy of enforced emigration that has broken families apart. We are being forced to repeat what our parents and grandparents had to endure by taking the boat and the aeroplane if they could afford it.
§ We will give farming back to farmers and begin to properly fund the production of food from our fields and reduce the need on expensive imports. We have farmers who are only too happy to produce real food once again and in doing that create not only an income for themselves but also employ others who are being left by the wayside due to government policies that are designed to keep Europe happy.
§ The IDA created ONE job in Cavan in 2015 and at what cost? The simple act of funding our own people to want to start up their own businesses in Cavan and Monaghan is an absolute priority for me and DDI / NCM. We need to support local people with local jobs and keep the money flowing in our own county and not depend on a government sponsored organisation to spend hundreds of thousands creating ONE job. We need to create real jobs that doesn’t involve a brass plate, tax evading corporation hiding in the IFSC with two employees. We will encourage investment in real people from all backgrounds and create real indigenous jobs that employs real people who pay real tax in the Cavan and Monaghan area.
§ Social protection and the support to those who need it most has been eroded to subsistence levels courtesy of the Fine Gael and Labour. OAP’s have seen drastic cuts in pensions and entitlements as have jobseekers and single parent families. The cuts were made to pay a bankers debt to bondholders, a debt that the people of Ireland never owned or had a say in. In other words, the people were conned into paying a price that we will pay for the next few generations. DDI /NCM will reverse the cuts made to peoples welfare payments and ensure that the standard of living is as it should be.
§ The health service is beyond a joke and is costing lives. Trolley after trolley line corridor after corridor in our overcrowded hospitals. Our focus is on reopening closed wards and employing more frontline personnel such as doctors and nurses rather than administrative staff. We will tackle the high cost of drugs being supplied at hugely inflated prices to the hospital system. Cut after cut by previous governments has effectively destroyed an already burgeoning system that is well and truly on the edge. The ambulance system is another example of a system that has suffered from major cuts that ultimately affect each and every one of us. It needs investment now... Lives depend on it including yours.
§ Unfortunately, what we have witnessed in regards to political policing has shaken those of us to the core. The Gardai are being used as private security men for a corrupt businessman rather than being tasked with doing the job that they signed up to do, which is to police crime. Here in Cavan and Monaghan, the increase in organised crime has risen to such an extent that farmers are sleeping with shotguns under their beds. Families are being terrorised by roaming gangs of criminals, breaking into homes at any hour, knowing that there will be no Garda response as station after station has been closed down to cuts imposed by fine Gael and supported by Labour. DDI / NCM will increase the police presence and re-open Garda stations so the Gardai can do their jobs once again. We will financially invest in our Gardai and give them the equipment and means to do their jobs properly.
§ Direct Democracy Ireland / National Citizens Movement will take the power from the hands of whip led politicians and allow our TD’s to vote with their conscience. We give the power to you the people to vote on hugely important decisions that up to now have been in the hands of politicians whose agenda is not conducive to the wellbeing of the Irish economy or its people. We are a truly people orientated party and not in the game of playing parish pump politics. We need to take responsibility and elect real people who actually care about fellow citizens otherwise we are feeding a political wolf who has already consumed the heart of our nation by giving complete autonomy to Europe. In other words, we no longer have a say in how our country is run.
§ Our country is in debt for the grand sum of €165 billion Euro. That debt is banking debt and not debt created by you or me, yet we are being forced to pay it to bondholders. People who took a gamble just as someone would place a bet on a horse and yet, lost the bet but still got paid. Do you really want more of the same madness? I don’t and many people that I know don’t. Don’t be afraid to break away from the madness and vote for me and my colleague Aoife O'Connell
who is from Monaghan. We are not in it for the money or the power trip (Think Labour Minister, Alan Kelly) but are in it to bring real change and real stability to a country that has been taken to the edge of a precarious cliff and hasn’t really moved away from the danger.
Don’t fall for the lies that “we are in recovery”. This country is like an alcoholic... One sniff and we are back where we were five years ago. Stability is a word that only applies to those who have benefited from corruption authorised by Fine Gael and Labour.
Don’t get taken in this time and believe that old saying: Better the Devil you know! It isn’t true as we all found out to our cost!
Please give me your No 1 vote and Number 2 to my running mate, Aoife O'Connell over in Monaghan. Look us up on our website... http://directdemocracyireland.ie/
