Each new software release requires over 50 different builds since we support over 20 different platforms: about a dozen Linux distribution variants, MacOS and MS Windows, 32-bit and 64-bit builds, client-only vs full builds, etc
The current hardware used for this task was purchased in 2011 and is now showing its age: doing a full release build takes many hours, and any mistakes that require a rebuild will cost as much time.
Having better and faster hardware will allow us to:
* provide a better product thanks to more continuous integration and automated testing
* provide more regular beta and release packages
* free up developer time for more productive tasks
* improve the responsiveness of the wiki and bug tracker
The new hardware should have:
* at least 8 cores, ideally more so that we can do builds in parallel
* 32GB of RAM or more
* fast SSD RAID1 for the temporary build area (256GB should be enough)
The exact location of the hosting facility where this new server hardware will be hosted has not been decided yet. Singapore is currently the front runner, but this may well change.
A country that respects user's privacy would be preferred.
Feel free to suggest better options for both the hardware and hosting location.
