**UPDATE** August 9 @ 7:30pm

We are truly floored by this incredible expression of support from our community. As donations quickly approach double our initial goal (!), we’ve decided to end the campaign at the end of day tomorrow, August 10, so that our team can turn our attention to planning an incredible showcase of WROL (Without Rule of Law)  for September 17.

We’ve started a Facebook event here, where you can let us know if you'd like to attend, so that we can start getting a sense of numbers: https://www.facebook.com/events/450992172049562/ and you can reach us at [email redacted]  if you’d like to help us make the event a reality.

Thank you again. Our hearts are full.

**UPDATE** August 9 @ 8am

Just a quick update to acknowledge that we’ve surpassed our target of $3,500! We are amazed and elated, and wish to reiterate our huge gratitude as well as note that additional funds raised will be utilized to invite more interested programmers to ensure a great premiere and long life beyond for the play. Residual revenue will become dedicated seed money for future production.

THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed, shared this post, volunteered, or reached out in any one of a hundred different ways. Your generosity is so deeply felt.

Thank you, Calgary, for your outpouring of support for WROL (Without Rule of Law) by Michaela Jeffery!

There has been so much excitement and interest in Michaela’s amazing play, that we want to share it with you in a staged reading of the script on Monday, September 17 in Calgary.

This will be an evening to celebrate the resilience of our community, and to invite interested artistic directors from near and far to hear the reading of WROL (Without Rule of Law) and consider this new play for future programming.

We need your help to make it happen!

Here’s what we’re looking for:

1.    A venue in Calgary to host the reading the evening of September 17*

2.    Event Volunteers (to help spread the word and lend a hand)*

3.    $10 for our GoFundMe campaign that will go toward getting this play seen by people who might want to produce it in Calgary and beyond (either as a World Premiere, or down the road), including travel and accommodations for key artistic directors interested in the show. Any additional support will be gratefully accepted as seed money for future productions. The artists involved have volunteered to participate in this event.

4.    You in our audience!

*If you can support the travel and accommodations of a visiting interested director, have a venue or hands to offer, or just want to or just get in touch with us,  please email [email redacted]

This will be a pay-what-you can event. Proceeds collected at the reading will be donated to the Playwrights Guild of Canada , who have been a tremendous support for Michaela, and Plan International Canada Because I Am A Girl , that strives to advance children’s rights and equality for girls.

(WROL) Without Rule of Law by Michaela Jeffery
A staged reading of a new play

Monday, September 17, 2018

Featuring: Julie Orton, Ellen Close, Selina Wong, Anna Cummer and Braden Griffiths

Director & Dramaturg: Laurel Green

Production support from WROL designers: Thomas Geddes, Anton de Groot, Jennifer Lee Arsenault and Poe Limkul

ABOUT THE PLAY: In the garage of her suburban duplex, twelve-year-old Josephine makes apocalypse preparedness videos and posts them to YouTube. Vic takes Jujitsu. Maureen encrypts her text messages and hordes matches (because lighters fail). Sarah stuffs her knapsack with extra socks, granola, water filtration tablets and Tolkien novels, because “you don’t know where you’re going to be… when it happens… you might not be at home.” Convinced the world at large can’t be trusted to prioritize the well-being of adolescent girls in the event of a cataclysmic event (or just in general), this determined troupe of 8th grade ‘doomers’ are committed to preparing for survival in the post -collapse society they anticipate inheriting. Judy Blume meets Rambo, WROL. (Without Rule of Law) is a darkly comic coming-of-age story for complicated times.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT: Michaela Jeffery is a Calgary-based playwright and recent graduate of The National Theatre School of Canada (2016).
