Michael's Medical Expenses

Thank you everyone for following Michael's jouney. As many of you already know, at 18 weeks gestation, we received the devastating news that our son, Michael, had a rare congenital heart defect which would require a series of surgeries to correct. And so started the whirlwind of events that we have been living in.

When Michael is born, we would need to separate as a family - with our 6 kids living with friends and Paul and I living in another state where Michael could receive the treatments he needs. We learned that the first surgery would be done within approximately a week of his birth. A second surgery would need to be done within 4-6 months of his birth. An additional third surgery may be needed between 4-6 years of age. Furthermore, when Michael enters adulthood, it is likely he will need a heart transplant unless science provides us with another option by that point.

For this reason, it was recommended that we store Michael's cord blood and tissue as many studies are currently being done for children with his condition using cord blood/tissue to regrow/repair the heart during the adult years. We had a company graciously grant us the first 5 years of storage for free but we still need to pay for the remaining lifetime storage costs, a costs of approximately $5,000-$6,000. Combine that with his medical costs, co-pays, gas to and from the hospital where he is receiving treatments, lodging (for times when we will not be able to use the Ronald McDonald House), meals, etc. and we could use a little extra financial help.

Prayer is what we need most and if that is the only way you can help, thank you!!!! If you are willing and able, would you consider helping us financially as well? These funds will be dedicated to costs directly related to Michael's medical needs and the costs of receiving those. Some of these costs are coming up directly while others will be applied to his second surgery which we anticipate will happen between February and April of 2018. The remainder of funds will go towards his cord blood/tissue storage fees which we would like to pay for as soon as possible. Needless to say, we did not see something like this coming and its a bit beyond what our savings can handle!
