The effects of Cushings disease. It is a fat pad at the base of my neck due to excess cortisol
These are blood blisters and blood coming to the surface of my skin due to the decrease in skin integrity and fragile skin.
The Cushings also has an effect on the immune system. My toe got very infected and I had to get my toenail removed. I was at risk of losing my toe and being hospitalized due to the severity of the infection.
Hi, My name is Heidi. I have been diagnosed with a brain tumor called Cushings Disease. Cushings disease is a hormone secreting tumor that secrets excess ACTH which stimulates your adrenal gland to produce Cortisol. The hormone Cortisol is a catabolic hormone meaning that is breaks down tissues which leads to a myriad of problems. This all started 2 years ago when I rapidly began to gain weight. Some thing was very wrong. I sought out to find answers. I went from doctor to doctor with odd health problems and pains. I had quickly developed blood pressure problems, tachycardia, and very rapid sudden onset weight gain. I had gained 70 lbs in 9 months. This was incredibly difficult emotionally.
1 year went by and I still have no answers. I had been to allergists, gynecologists, multiple endocrinologists, gastroenterologist, physical therapists, and numerous medical doctors. I had been admitted to ER multiple times due to severe nausea, vomiting and unbearable migraines. Sudden increase then decrease in blood pressure to the point of passing out. Cushings is a rare disease and affects only 1 in a million patients. I had gone to over 20 doctors. Noone knew what was wrong... I was beyond exhausted, I was incapable of work and had no energy. I had a diurnaI sleep pattern, in which I can only sleep during the day and awake at night. It became my bodys natural pattern. I had a realization that I couldn't make it up a flight of stairs and could hardly walk because I fealt my achilles heels were going to snap. I had been a very active young adult who loved dance and exercise. Exercise is almost impossible at this point. My greatest loves are now gone. My goal to becoming a nurse is now dwindling. I thought to myself "how can I be sick and work?"
I researched all the symptoms I had and ruled out all the other diseases. I was almost certain that I had Cushings disease . So I sought after an endocrinologist who knew a lot about Cushings. He is located in Los Angeles. He is recognized as one of the leading experts for Cushings disease. After more than 60 tests and numerous MRIs And CTs the tumor was finally found. I had my last MRI and the radiaologist found the tumor. So thats where I am now. I need funding for surgery and expenses to have someone come with me. I will need to fly to Texas for surgery. I will need funding fora rental car, plane tickets, motel and airfares in addition to help with additional costs after insurance.
My results of the MRI.
My best friend has offered to come with me in which she will be leaving her children to stay with their aunt for a week. If everything goes well I will be in the hospital for 5 days. Post surgery recovery takes between 6 months to a year for your hormones to get back to normal. Thank you so much for taking the time to read. If you cant help, Just pray for me. God is greater than all diseases.
