Blind Marine Vet gets Bike Stolen
Donation protected
Jimmy Stivers is my best friend, he's a rare breed, the kind of man you just can't find many of these days. Jimmy and I met in the Marine Corps, we both served about 10 years and instantly we became best friends. Jimmy is a family man first and foremost...he has a beautiful wife Katie, and two daughters Allyson and Piper, and they are his everything. Jimmy was medically forced out of the Marine Corps because he was gradually losing his vision to a degenerative eye disease called stargardts disease. In 2014 or early 2015, Jimmy lost his drivers license due to the progression of his disease. When he was able Jimmy would do Spartan races, get up at 4:00 am to go to the gym, and he loved to ride his bike long distances. After he lost his license, his bike became his getaway, because he felt freedom when riding it. Jimmy is legally blind, but not completely blind for those of you asking why a blind man needs a bike... Jimmy is the kind of guy who would help you move or pick you up from the airport at 3:00AM. Though his life has gotten more difficult, he still works a job full time and takes care of his family. 3 days ago while moving into his new home in eureka, ca, jimmy's $2500 Giant Defy 3 road bike was stolen from his garage during the moving process. I ask my friends, fellow Marines, and anyone willing or able to contribute to get Jimmy a new bike. Nothing would bring me more joy then to personally deliver him a brand new bike...God bless and thank you for your generosity...
