The oldest surviving brick building in Sevier County, TN, New Salem Baptist Church was built by Isaac Dockery in 1886. New Salem is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. and has been featured in numerous publications nationally and locally. New Salem was once a cornerstone of the local community. It has been the primary meeting place for annual and historical family gatherings for other half a century. Since it's inception, New Salem has been the home of multiple religious denominations and various ethnic groups. Despite its impact and enhancement in the community, chronic flooding has begun to destroy this historical site. It is in grave danger of becoming a dying relic. After much needed renovations, New Salem will once again set precedence in the community as a facility of both historic and civic use. It will become an active part of heritage tourism in the area as well as celebrations, story telling and family gatherings. We also want to promote and serve our community with togetherness and goodwill. We encourage mutual improvment and family values.
