Zachary's Recovery & Education Fund

My great nephew, 18 year-old Zachary Poston, was attending First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs on Sunday, November 5, 2017 with his beloved grandmother (my sister-in-law) Peggy Lynn Warden, when a guman opened fire on the congregation. Peggy stepped in front of Zachary as a shield and was fatally wounded. (She is our hero.) She saved Zachary's life.
Zachary was shot 7 times in the arms, legs and torso. One of the shots fired at Zachary was sustained as he was using his foot to push a little girl under the the Church pew. She was trying to crawl out and Zachary feared if the gunman saw her he would shoot her. Because of his movement, the gunman shot him again at close range.
The gunman walked up and down the isle shooting anyone who moved, so Zachary played dead and the little girl stayed put. Once the gunman left the Church, Zachary called 911.
Upon arriving at the hospital via Airlife, he went into surgery. The first of many surgeries was to put in pins to hold his bones together and to support his left wrist which was hanging on by ligaments and tendons. He is back in surgery now. They are removing the pins and graphting his femur bone. He will need many more surgeries and is looking at a long road to recovery.
This is Zachary's senior year at La Vernia High School. He is a bright young man, destined for goodness. Due to his injuries and extensive recovery, he is missing out on a vital part of his education. He has his heart on graduating and attending college in the future and we desperately want to keep that dream alive for him.
My niece Jennifer, pictured with Zachary, is a mother with four other boys. While she has only begun grieving the loss of her mom, Peggy, she also grieves for her son on a whole other level. She is eternally grateful that Zachary is alive but still there is heartbreak seeing your child in such a state. She has not left his side.
Because of Jennifer's constant need to be at her son's side during his stay in the hospital and to relieve her of any undue burdens, I am setting this account up. With Jennifer's blessing I am set up as beneficiary at this time. Please be certain ALL funds go to Jennifer for Zachary. When and if Jennifer is ready, the account will be transferred into her name. My only goal here is to help relieve the burdens for this family.
We are grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and encouragement from our friends, family, community, and beyond. Although we have been shaken to our core, our faith is strong and our God is still on the throne and triumphs over evil.
We ask that you would consider donating to Zachary's road to recovery and his future. We are certain God has a calling on his life.
We thank you in advance for your support and we covet your prayers.
In Christ,
Korri Stevens (Great Aunt to Zachary)
We live in La Vernia, Texas. Jennifer, Zachary, and his siblings all live on our farm. We are a tight knit family.
Our goal is to raise money for Zachary's recovery and education, specifically for whatever expenses arise once his recovery period begins and should he need tutoring to catch up in his studies, and for his future college tuition and other needs.
Romans 8:28 –And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
