Hello everyone,

I first would like to thank each and everyone of who is taking time out of your daily lives to read this story about a 5-year old boy named Zack Jaafar. My name is Lola Elzein-Merhi and I just happened to grow up with Zack's lovely parents, Fadi & Reema. I would also like to mention that I am the one who is initiating this fundraiser. Fadi & Reema had no intention of asking for help, but as a friend, my heart told me this was the right thing to do.

One day Zack was ill. He was vomiting and had stomach pain. So like any average mom, Reema took Zack to Children's hospital. This repeatedly happened for two months. She demanded an MRI or a cat scan and they refused to give Zack an MRI or a cat scan.

One Monday morning, Zack wakes up seeing 'double'. He woke up and said, "Mom, I see 2 goofy dolls, I see 2 TV's". Reema immediately rushed him to Mott's hospital in Ann Arbor. They took him in for a MRI and that was a turning point in their lives. Zack had a brain tumor. By Tuesday they knew it was brain cancer. That Wednesday, he underwent an extensive 13-hour brain surgery and after the surgery was completed, they had bad news from the doctor. The cancer had reached his brain stem.

Since that day, Zack has underwent another surgey and has been traveling back and forth between the Metro Detroit area and Philadelphia. This upcoming Saturday, Zack will be staying in Philadelphia for 6 weeks to undergo chemotherapy and radiation. This is just the beginning of it. Once Zack comes back from Philadelphia, he will start chemotherapy in Michigan for at least 1 year. It becomes a long waiting game from this point.

Zack's father has to leave work to be with his son. Therefore, these funds will be used for temporary housing in Philadelphia, medical expenses, bills, traveling expenses, and items for Zack that are a necessity for his cancer treatment.

This means so much to me, personally, not because Reema and Fadi are my dear friends. This means so much to me because I am a mother.  I can not imagine the agonizing pain that these parents have to endure every single day while watching their sick child get treatment. They feel helpless. This is our chance as a community to give back and to give this family hope.

Regardless of whether or not you can give, I am also asking that you do a prayer for Zack Jaafar and wish that God grants him a full and quick recovery.

God bless you and all of your families and may God always shower your children and famlies with health and prosperity.

Sending all of you much love,

Lola Elzein-Merhi
