Hi, for those of you who don’t know me, or who just need a refresher of who I am, my name is Houston Teamer, Marine Corps Veteran and now a current actor/model in Los Angeles.
On January 20th, 2019, police received several calls reporting a hit and run on the corner of Grand Ave and Cass St. In Pacific Beach, San Diego. These calls were in response to a vehicle who hit me while I was riding on an electric scooter, celebrating a short vacation in San Diego visiting friends and family.
As I was traveling eastbound down Grand Ave an unknown vehicle struck me, ejecting me off the scooter causing me to faceplant on the ground. As I slowly turned to my side, I began to feel blood flow from my mouth along with fragments of my teeth. The pain was excruciating and left me motionless. As I watched blood spill from my mouth, and the vehicle who struck me drive away, leaving me for dead, I closed my eyes and prayed that was not the last moment of my life.
Fortunately, after about 30 mins I was finally rushed to the hospital finally arriving an hour after the accident, all thanks to the multiple phone calls placed by unknown good Samaritans.
I woke up several hours later in a trauma room at Scripps in La Jolla and had suffered multiple injuries.
These injuries included:
A broken nose
Two broken cheek bones
Three breaks in my Jaw and finally
Multiple chipped/broken teeth
(sweater I was wearing during the accident)
Over 24 hours after the incident and sitting in pain rotating off of multiple medicines to try control my pain, I finally was admitted into surgery where I had multiple areas stitched together and 3 plates inserted into my cheek, chin and jaw and ultimately had to have my mouth wired shut. The pain at this point was astronomical and there are not words to describe the emotions or pains flowing through my body.
Now I am at my parents’ house recovering while trying to improve my health daily. Fortunately, medical bills are partially covered by insurance, however, all the dental fees will be out of pocket, as they are considered cosmetic and at this point, I still don’t have a return to work date.
There is an open police investigation and they are working day in and night out to find who was behind the wheel of the car who struck me but at this point, almost a week out, I am preparing myself to deal with the charges all on my own. We estimate the dental costs alone to exceed $10,000.
Today I humbly approach everyone, seeking the help from friends, family and all individuals with the capability to extend a hand. It is a long journey and the road to recovery is going to be tough but through family, friends and faith I know I will make it.
