Ms. Watson's English Class

I started this journey a couple of months ago when I packed up everything I own into my tiny prius to drive 10 hours to the Mississippi Delta to teach. Stepping into the classroom was freightening but also natural as learning has always been my passion. I have been extremely privileged in my learning experience. I always had access to books and endless school supplies. That is not the case for many of my 9th and 10th grade students here in Mississippi. Many of them don't own books and can't afford basic school supplies. Because I am a high school teacher, I alone can't afford supplies for 200 + students. That is why I am asking for your help. I want to foster a learning environment that is welcoming for my students so that they can become life-long readers and writers. In order to do this, I need funding for an in class library full of books that are age appropriate for my students but also for my students' parents as public librarys are few and far between. I also need funding for basic school supplies like pencils and notebooks. Going to school and learning was always a positive experience for me growing up. That is all I want for my students. I want them to contemplate literature and world events....I don't want them to have to worry about not having pencils on the first day of school. I'll leave you with this;
