The big Shave for Zoe

This is the HoyPoy family just after Zoe was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer.  At 14 years of age she was a happy, sporty teenager living life to the fullest. She was doing very well at school, went to every softball event she could and had just got her first part-time job at a shoe shop. Then, in December last year she experienced stomach pain and bleeding, which prompted a trip to emergency. After multiple scans a large tumor was found in her abdomen. Since then Zoe has undergone ten rounds of chemotherapy, which has caused her not only to lose a lot of weight but also large sections of her hair. Zoe has since shaved her head, gained some weight again and has never lost her smile and hope for the future.

Having taught Zoe for just over a year, I was shocked to see her when she walked back into my classroom at the beginning of this school year. She looked thin and weak, and nothing like the happy girl I knew. I felt then the deepest compassion for her and her family and it is my deepest wish to help ease at least their financial pressure of Zoe's long-term sickness. It is therefore that I wanted to offer them the opportunity for a crowd-funding campaign to shave my hair. I have always had long hair and have not cut off more than a few centimeters in the last seven years. I don't colour or straighten it and generally do my best to keep it healthy.

After some communication we have set Friday afternoon, the 29th July as the proposed date for the shave. We are hoping to make this a community event and all its proceeds will be directly donated to the HoyPoy family.
