Zondras Treatment Fund

Zondra is in urgent need of a serious LIFE SAVINbrain and neurosurgery in Barcelona Spain. She has been told that this surgery is so urgent as her condition is so advanced she has no choice left, her brainstem is so compressed she has developed myleopathy she is losing all her neurogical functions. This can lead to stroke, paralysis and DEATH in her sleep. We need your help fund this surgery to let this young woman live her life with her young son for as long as she can. WHAT IS WRONG?? Zondra has a rare connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. This condition effects her whole body and she suffers from a host of secondary disorders like, Chiari Malformation which is a brain disorder. Atlanto axial instability and cranial cervical instability which is partial dislocation of the skull from the spine. This has caused her brain stem to be compressed. She also has Pots, a heart condition, ventricular tachychardia and Autonomic dysfunction. These are all being exasperated by her brain stem compression. She also has paralysis in her stomach called gastropaerisis. Zondra has had a lot to contend with over these last few years, from a cardiac crisis, to being resuscitated and being on palliative care. She just recently suffered a pulmonary embolism after travelling to see the neurosurgeon who is doing her surgery. With no specialists in her conditions in Ireland she had to travel to London for specialist care while critically ill. Here she received diagnostic testing that cannot be done in Ireland. Due to fundraising we have been able to get Zondra the specialists she needs and treatment to help her symptoms in London. She travels every 3 months which has costs tens and tens of thousands. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting Zondra and helping her access specialist care in London in the hospital of St John's and Elizabeths, the Lindo Wing in St Mary's and Queen Square Neurology Hospital. She has accessed specialist Autonomic testing and upright Mris to diagnose Chiari none of which are available in Ireland. This has allowed Zondra seek help and stop living her life in a hospital away from her son. PROGNOSIS Unfortunately the news regarding her Chiari and brain stem compression was not good. She urgently requires this very tricky brain and neuro surgery that only a few neurosurgeons in the world can operate on in Eds patients. We have seeked the opinion of all these surgeons and because Zondra is unable to travel we have decided Spain will probably be the best option. As the prognosis is stroke, paralysis or death and the surgeon said Zondra case is advanced and has no choice but to operate. This surgery and costs over €100,000 and its why we are increasing our target for now. We hope to apply for funding that might cover some of the extortionate costs, but this is not definite that we still get any funding at all. Once again we ask you can you help give the precious gift of Zondras life and her son's life having his mother. Any donation fundraiser or fund-raising idea is greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much.
