Snowcat Fundraiser

Donation protected
A snow cat is an integral part of any mountain operation and sadly our current machine is past its life expectancy and will need to be retired at the end of the 2017 season. This means that we have work to do! No snowcat means no Shames Mountain Ski Area! Nonprofit and community owned means we need our community (you), businesses, and government funding for bigger purchases. Another challenge, but nothing our community can’t face. Remember how locals and businesses came together to proudly create Canada's first ski co-operative? How inspiring was that! Now lets stay inspired and get us a snowcat!

The snow cat makes it possible for the mountain to operate in any condition ranging from deep coastal pow, to fluffy light stuff, to icy hard pack that hasn't seen fresh snow in a week.  It is crucial to all aspects of ski hill operation from the process of clearing the lift lines to grooming much loved runs such as Big Bunny and Python. We know Shames and we know that the powder days at this little mountain are world class, but we still rely on the work done by the cat to access all that beautiful powder—as well as the backcountry. You know what happens to a powder run after it has been skied out or rained on. The snowcat works to make those runs manageable again, especially for kids or people who are just starting to fall in love with skiing, snowboarding, and Shames Mountain. Our small towns don't have the same amenities and options for entertainment as big cities do, but we love our home and the outdoors, the nature that surrounds us, and our outdoor activities.

Thank you to Meg Hoole and Sherwood Brewery for selling dog cookies, where all proceeds go to the snowcat! Thank you CMP Manufacturing Ltd for donating materials and time to build the Puzz-o-Meter to help us track the campaign!

Thank you to all who already have donated, listed on the GoFundMe page, to those who have donated in the jar at the hill, to Paypal, to City West for matching donations, to all the anonymous, and to Northwest Avalanche Solutions. To Bear Creek for fixing our current snowcat. You are the best!
We will keep populating this page with more donor names in the near future.

This is Our Mountain so let's show it just how much we love it and give what we can! Lets ensure that we, and our children are able to enjoy this jewel of the northwest for countless years to come. Trust us when we say that every contribution, no matter the size, is appreciated and makes a difference. Community volunteers and hill staff are proactively doing what they can to fundraise, approach local businesses, fill out grant applications, and figure out bank financing.
