Support Amanda

Some of you know the challenges my good friend Amanda Bryan Simpson has had to face, but many of you probably don't. If you had the pleasure of meeting her you might not realize that she has been sick with a kidney disease for most of her life. Even in our 20s when her kidneys failed and she received a transplant her kind heart and sense of humor would hide her struggle. In the past year her health has become more of a challenge. In and out of the hospital, desperately trying to keep the kidney her late father donated. The rejection meds that she needs to stay alive lower her immune system, so every cold could be life threatening. She has been sick for the last month with pneumonia. In the hospital for a painful lung biopsy. Missing a month of work! Try for a moment to imagine the financial hardship having a lifelong illness puts on her family. With rising healthcare costs and deductibles.
Through it all she remains a wonderful mother, wife and friend to everyone. When we talk of her struggles she simply says " that's just how it is for me". Still rushing to pick up her child from school and making meals for her family with sickness and fever.
I fear what this cold and flu season will be like for her. Together we can make a real difference for Amanda and her family.
