HELLO FELLOW, NATURALISTS, ENTOMOLOGISTS AND JUST ALL AROUND NATURE LOVERS!!!!!

Welcome to the first ever insect museum project in Costa Rica!!!

My name is Kelly Price (Kelly Themis on facebook) and I have been traveling with my close friend Jim Cordoba-Alfaro throughout Costa Rica for over 5 years studying the distribution and natural history of insect species in Costa Rica.  I reside in the United States and have a degree in biology but have become more of an amateur entomologist in my 25 years of study and involvement in this field.
I have traveled extensively in Costa Rica for over 8 years but have also traveled in Mexico and Ecuador.  In these travels I photograph and catalog insect species to better understand their distribution and habitat as well as document them digitally.

My close friend Jim Cordoba-Alfaro is from Costa Rica and is currently in graduate school for Tropical Biology at the University of Costa Rica.  Jim has worked at the National Museum of Costa Rica, The Insect Museum of the University of Costa Rica and published many papers related to Lepidoptera (butterflies).  See his web page here: http://www.researchgate.net/profile/Jim_Cordoba-Alfaro
His most recent exciting discovery was a new Mammal species only known from Osa Peninsula.  The publication will be complete this year.

I am currently working on my first publication on the Natural History and Distribution of a certain group of Rutelinae species (beetles) that are found in Costa Rica.  Jim has helped me greatly in this endeavor.  A special thanks as well to Jose Monzon from the University of Guatemala for his continued help and support in our research.

Recently Jim has started work doing Eco tourism at La Leona Eco Lodge in Osa Peninsula.  Jim gives guided tours and works with student research groups. We are very excited to say that we have just obtained the necessary permits and authorization from the Costa Rican Government to open THE FIRST  insect museum in Costa Rica.  It will be located in Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula.  We have gotten much support from the local community and surrounding Eco lodges in Osa but we need your help to make this a reality!!

Our goal in doing this campaign is to obtain the necessary funding to get this project off the ground and sustainable.  We need to pay rent for the facility, purchase supplies for the displays and curation of specimens as well as gift shop supplies that will help fund the museum. The museum facility is small at this time but hopefully in the near future it will grow.  Your help in this venture is critical.  We both hope you will come and visit us in Puerto Jimenez in 2017!

We have just enough funds right now to open our doors in November 2017 and we are trying to time the opening around the beginning of tourism season.   With your help we can sustain operations and become self- sufficient.

The purpose of this museum is to promote tropical habitat preservation and bring awareness to the fragile and diverse creatures that live there.  Insects make up three quarters of the world biomass, yet many people know very little about them.
The museum will not only house a collection of insects for display but more importantly provide a rich environment for study and student research projects.

Costa Rica is the front runner in preservation and conservation of its natural resources.  This project continues that commitment to education and preservation.

We thank you for your support and we hope to see you at the museum!!
