Hello everyone. My name is Jabari. All my life I have been a persistent artist with a very strong imagination. I've always been fascinated with ancient and medieval civilizations, arms, armor, and mythology. However I noticed a shortage and in most cases overall lack of African representation in almost every area. As a black American, I found it quite confusing how there was so little representation of our history prior to slavery. From movies, to games, or simple Wikipedia pages, Africa is usually completely ignored or very briefly represented. Take Disney for example, just about every major culture is represented with a strong cultural "Human" element:
East Asia: Mulan
Middle East: Aladdin
Europe: Several
America: Pocahantas
Polynesia: Lilo & Stitch and Moana
Africa: Lion King and Tarzan (Neither of which have any black African characters or cultural representations)
On the rare occasions where Africa does have a presence, it's usually depicted as a primitive, dangerous wilderness filled with wild animals, barbaric tribes and poverty. Like most people, I grew up with this same image of Africa. I thought that this is all Africa is and ever was. Anything positive usually only pertains to it's nature or to the Northern African regions such as Egypt. When people think of Africa, they don't think of large empires, walled cities, armored horsemen, strong cultural traditions or any of the other amazing and beautiful things that one would expect from Eurasia. During my teenage years I began to take a keen interest in African history and culture, and I gained more and more knowledge of it along the way. I began to learn about the well developed kingdoms, empires, arms, armor, mythology, science, and technology that was created independently on the African continent. I decided to apply my artistic abilities and my creativity to this neglected and untapped pool of human existence.
Unfortunately I do not have any high quality software, or resources to create anything worthy of daytime television, nor do I have the money to do so. With that being said, my videos are being created solely from the few resources I have at hand on my personal computer. I am very passionate about this project and I want it to grow and improve consistently. The cold hard truth is, it's not free. It takes lots of time and money. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and if you can't donate, please just share my videos with your friends and family. Being able to tell the stories about my people and my history before slavery is my ultimate goal. Thank you everyone in advance.
