Hello, family and friends! My name is Aliyah Chavez. I'm from Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico and am a graduate of the Santa Fe Indian School. I'm currently in the process of finishing my first year at Stanford University. I am undeclared but will potentially double major in the Comparative Studies of Race and Ethnicity and Communication.
I'm here to announce that I am running for Miss Native American USA (MNAUSA). MNAUSA was founded in 2011 on the basis of recognizing strong Native women and their ability to inspire, advocate and promote positive representations of Native people. The pageant is held in Tempe, Arizona on August 8, 2015.
I am running for MNAUSA beacuse I am passionate about showing that Native people are resilient, successful and passionate about changing issues such as land/ water rights, tribal sovereingty and revitalizing Native culture.
The money that I receive through this GoFundMe account will go towards a pageant registration fee, an evening gown, a new traditional Pueblo dress and travel.
If you cannot donate money, I completely understand but do feel free to share my story. Should you donate, please write your name down. At the end of the fundraiser, I will draw your names from a hat in lottery style fashion and five people will receive small gifts of appreciation. Thank you so much in advance!
