We Are Gyumri is excited to host the 4th Annual Summer Camp, this year bearing the name and theme "Amaras." From July 16 to August 10, children aged 6 to 16 are welcomed to immerse themselves in a world of learning, growth, and fun at the Shirvanian Youth Center (SYC) in Gyumri, Armenia.
Why "Amaras"?
Choosing "Amaras" as our theme, we delve into a concept that is both a homage to our historical roots and a beacon guiding our modern identity. Inspired by the Amaras Monastery in Artsakh, where Mesrop Mashtots established the first Armenian school, our "Amaras" Summer Camp aspires to light the spark of heritage and enlightenment in young Armenians. It celebrates resilience, culture, and the pursuit of knowledge, aiming to connect campers to their illustrious past and inspire them to carry forward the legacy of their ancestors with pride. Join us in creating a future where tradition and identity empower the next generation.
Over a span of nearly four weeks, participants will embark on an enlightening journey through various activities, including:
• Cultural Exploration: Children will engage with the rich Armenian history, learn and perform national dances, and sing songs that resonate with our revolutionary spirit.
• Creative Workshops: Children will dive into arts and crafts sessions that foster imagination, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment.
• Skill Building: Children will participate in hands-on skills training, including first aid, combined with exciting outdoor activities like hiking, to promote teamwork and resilience.
• Community Connections: With the camp orchestrated by SYC's dedicated staff, Mina Shirvanian Scholarship awardees, AYF Gyumri Youth members, and enthusiastic local volunteers, it's an opportunity to build lasting friendships and a supportive community.
Reflecting on Our Journey
Three years ago marked the debut of our summer camp initiative, commemorating the 5th anniversary of the Shirvanian Youth Center. Titled "We Are Shushi," the camp welcomed 53 eager campers under the nurturing guidance of Mina Shirvanian Scholarship recipients. It was an enriching experience, filled with learning, laughter, and camaraderie. Over the last two summers, the successful camp sessions have grown considerably, serving more local children with summer activities and endless fun, with last year alone reaching 140 kids.
How You Can Support
As we embark on this year's adventure named "Amaras," we seek your support to keep this impactful program entirely free of charge for all participants. Your generosity allows us to offer Gyumri's youth a playground of possibilities—where they can learn, play, and grow in a secure and stimulating environment. Together, we can make "Amaras" Summer Camp 2024 a cherished memory for our children and a vibrant chapter in our collective story.
With heartfelt gratitude,
-The We Are Gyumri Team
