The Sylvania Southview HOSA chapter is proud to announce an Alzheimer’s awareness fundraiser as part of our PSA competition event. This initiative is dedicated to supporting those impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, a condition that affects millions of individuals and families worldwide.

Our goal is to raise crucial funds for Alzheimer’s research while spreading awareness about the importance of early detection, care, and support for those living with the disease. Join us in making a difference—every donation brings us closer to improved treatments, greater understanding, and, one day, a cure. Together, we can create hope for the future.

Hey friends! As many of you know, family means everything to me! A few years ago, my Grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and sadly, I have watched this disease consume and change one of the sharpest and most intelligent men I have ever known! Your donations won’t save my grandfather but hopefully they can aid in the research for this terrible disease, so we can one day find a cure! I appreciate any and all donations, as they all are paving a way toward a better future in regards to this disease!

More information about Alzheimers Foundation Of America Inc (Afa): The mission of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is to provide support, services and education to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias nationwide, and fund research for better treatment and a cure.

Running has empowered me way more than I ever imagined. It has connected me with so many other runners, and I have made lifelong friends. On November 19th, 2022, a few days after my birthday, Adriana, Mariele, and I will run a 50K (31.7miles) in some of the best trails of the Marin Headlands, starting from Stinson Beach and climbing (6200 ft, ~1900m) to perched views from Mount Tam before returning to the beach again.

We want to motivate people of all ages to nurture walking/running and are dedicating these miles to raise money to fund research and awareness for Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer's disease is a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. An estimated 6.5 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s dementia in 2022. Research has demonstrated a correlation between physical exercise and a lower risk of Alzheimer's.

On November 2nd, 2021 , I lost my beautiful mother, Joanne Olsen, after many years of battling dementia. She was a beautiful, generous, kind-hearted woman that touched the lives of each and every person she met. In hopes to honor her memory, I would like to raise money for the Alzheimer's Foundation of America Inc. Any donation will help make an impact, and hopefully bring our society one step closer towards finding a cure. Edwardsville High School Boys soccer will be hosting an Alzheimers Awareness game versus Alton on September 23, 2021, at Tiger Stadium. Alzheimer's and other Dementia-related diseases are progressive neurological diseases that cause the brain to shrink and cells to die. More than 3 million new cases are reported each year with 5%-6% of the cases reported being classified as early-onset Alzheimers, or patients diagnosed under the age of 65. Alzheimer's does not just affect the person with the disease, but their loved ones as well. The money raised by the game will go to the Alzheimers Foundation of America. The AFA strives to provide support, education, and services to individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's. The money raised will go towards ensuring that every person, every family, will have the support they need.
