Summer Camp for Autistic Kids in Nablus Refugee Camps
Help Fund a Healing Summer Camp for Autistic Children in Nablus Refugee Camps

Salaam and hello friends,

My name is Hanan Hamed, and I’m the CEO of Autism Superhero Palestine, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to support autistic children and their families across Palestine. You can learn more about our work at www.autismsuperpali.org.

Next month, we’re organizing a two-week summer camp in the refugee camps of Nablus — including Balata, Askar, and Al-Ein — to serve 30 children, half of whom are autistic, and the other half their siblings.

These autistic children live in communities under constant military invasion, and most have gone without school or services for over 18 months. Many are experiencing trauma, isolation, and neglect. Our camp is designed to provide a space for healing, joy, creativity, and support — at no cost to their families.

Autism educational book bundles
A new year is almost here, and we want to start it with a new initiative. Over the past two years, we have offered these books to around 50 autistic children in Palestine. We have more autistic children needing educational book bundles that consider their capabilities and follow autism-friendly learning techniques and approaches. Especially since most of them do not attend school, their families are looking for possible alternatives to teach them at home, and most families do not know where to start.

We aim to offer 100 children with autism these book bundles that teach them different subjects and develop their skills. Books cover areas like:

Arabic Letters.

Numbers.

Shapes.

Colors.

Matching.

Tracing shapes and lines.

Fine Motor Skills.

Visual Social Stories.

Reading.

Sorting.

Sensory Activities.

Social Skills.

Emotions.

PECS Communication Books for Palestinian Children with Autism is our new project. PECS uses visual symbols to teach children with autism to communicate with parents, carers, teachers, and peers. The aim is to teach intentional, functional communication and to allow users to communicate their wants and needs. We are targeting 25 non-verbal children with autism in Palestine, each child will receive a package that includes:
- PECS Book in Arabic.
- Parents Training Program on how to use PECS books to improve their child's communication skills.

Each Package will cost $200. Any additional donations will go towards providing more PECS books to children.

Ramadan Iftar Night for Autism Families
April month this year 2022 is a special month as two of the most special occasions will coincide, Ramadan & Autism awareness day and month. Autism Superhero Palestine is a nonprofit organization that serves families and individuals with autism in Palestine.

This Ramadan, we want children and youth with autism to feel included during the month of giving, kindness, and family & community gatherings. We are creating an Iftar event for families of children with autism to meet for iftar, share experiences, enjoy fun activities with their children, and feel appreciated, included, and remembered in the holy month of Ramadan and Autism awareness month.

The event will include the following:

Iftar dinner and dessert for 120 family members of ASD.

gifts for children.

Clowns and other characters.

Ramadan Storyteller.

Help Suha Bring Autism Care to Palestine
Hi! I’m Suha – and three years ago I founded Autism Superhero Palestine, a nonprofit organization to support families, mothers and children. Since our launch, we are now serving 350 families, offering programs in two categories: Education and Direct Services.

I firmly believe that it takes a village to help a child with autism, so my first area of concentration is to educate families on autism beyond the name, conduct support groups, train parents and caregivers on behavioral methods, and provide guidance on how to navigate the school system.

I created this non-profit because I am a mother with a child on the spectrum in the West Bank. And I needed to support my son.

In Palestine, there are no official statistics on the number of children diagnosed with autism. The government infrastructure to provide resources and services doesn’t exist, resulting in a lack of comprehensive autism centers and specialized experts in the field, including diagnosticians and therapists. Awareness is low and poverty is high, leading to incredible hardships experienced by families with special needs.

So I became the infrastructure.

And I continue in my journey as a leader in this space by learning best practices and standards of autism care throughout the world. I am currently trying to get to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the World Congress on Rehabilitation (a fancy way of saying vocational services for adults).

Help me get there! I need to bring this home to support my community.
