Hugs Not Walls #11
On November 2, 2024, Border Network for Human Rights will have its 11th event called #HugsNotWalls, where families from USA and Mexico that had not seen each other in many years due to the broken immigration system will be reunited for 3 minutes down in the Rio Grand; they will have the opportunity to see their nephews, their grandchildren, their brothers, their parents, their husbands, etc., and take pictures, and videos of each other for the first time ever!

BNHR encourages you to join the struggle, do the right thing, and not look the other way when our neighbors need us the most. Let's be grateful we are not in their situation. Let's be thankful that we still live in a country with freedom and values, values that we need to fight for, values that are fading away little by little every time we allow the inhumane treatment of women and children towards families pursuing their happiness, a human right that we claim, but at the same time, we as a country, deny to the Latino immigrants.

COVID-19 ECONOMIC EMERGENCY FUND
The Border Network for Human Rights, the Border Agricultural Workers Project, and the Peace and Justice Ministry have created:

The COVID-19 Economic Emergency Fund: From People to People
This fund was established to help support the thousands of essential workers and their families left out of the federal financial assistance efforts established in response to COVID-19 because of their immigration status or other extenuating circumstances.

Now more than ever these underserved communities have shown just how vital they are to our country’s economy and deserve to be acknowledged for the work they are doing and included in the relief efforts regardless of their status. This fund was established for all: the undocumented, the single parent, the farmworker, and the elderly.

Amidst tremulous times, we are comforted by knowing that a once-divided country is now brought together in the face of this pandemic. This virus has magnified how together, we can overcome even the greatest of adversities by supporting one another.

La Red Fronteriza por los Derechos Humanos, el Proyecto de Trabajadores Agrícolas Fronterizos y el Ministerio de Paz y Justicia han creado:

El Fondo de Emergencia Económica COVID-19: Del Pueblo para el Pueblo
Este fondo fue establecido para ayudar a los miles de trabajadores esenciales y sus familias que quedaron fuera de los esfuerzos federales de asistencia financiera promulgados en respuesta a COVID-19 debido a su estado migratorio y a otras circunstancias atenuantes.

Ahora más que nunca, estas comunidades desprotegidas han demostrado cuán vitales son para la economía de nuestro país y merecen ser reconocidas por el trabajo que están haciendo e incluidas en los esfuerzos de ayuda, independientemente de su estatus migratorio. Este fondo se estableció para todos, incluyendo: trabajadores inmigrantes, madres y padres solteros, trabajadores agrícolas y personas de la tercera edad.

En medio de estos tiempos de crisis, nos consuela saber que un país que alguna vez estuvo dividido ahora se une ante esta pandemia. Este virus ha magnificado cómo juntos podemos superar incluso las mayores adversidades apoyándonos mutuamente.

For two decades at the U.S.-Mexico border in West Texas and Southern New Mexico, we have worked to advance marginalized border communities—many of whom live in poverty and/or uncertain immigration status—by promoting policies and practices that comprehensively address national security, community dignity and safety, poverty and economic inclusion, and respect for human and constitutional rights. At the center of this, the communities and organizers of the Border Network for Human Rights do our work. We have built an organization with a strong grassroots membership of over 1,000 immigrant and border families, hundreds of trained human rights promoters, and dozens of human rights committees.
