Everyone needs a why. 
Establishing the Mary Mahoney Memorial Scholarship through The Charlotte Post Foundation offers a sense of purpose in a situation that doesn't make a lot of sense. She died from cancer on Aug. 20, 2017. An incredible artist who nurtured the talents of others, we will provide one scholarship to a Charlotte artist pursuing higher education. To honor her birthday, July 18, as well as mine, June 12, we hope to raise $1,330 ($718 + $612) for the inaugural scholarship campaign. Donations can be made through July 18.

That's the mentality that brought The Mary Mahoney Memorial Scholarship to life. The scholarship emerged from heartache, loss and a need to make sense of death. Mary Mahoney, my mom, died from cancer on Aug. 20, 2017. She never had a formal arts education, but she made up for it in natural talent and persistence. Her scholarship is a space to honor the next generation of artists while carrying forward her legacy of nurturing those around her. Since 2018, The Charlotte Post Foundation has awarded three scholarships to artists pursuing higher education: Bryana Mainor, Marcus Fitzpatrick  and Malik J. Norman . It provides $1,330 to the recipient to help fund education costs. Why $1,330? It's the equivalent of her birthday $718, July 18, plus my birthday, $612, June 12. The scholarship is entirely community funded, and we need your help to continue supporting artists.
