Chicago Furniture Bank Needs a Third Truck!
In our first nine months, the Chicago Furniture Bank has:
-Furnished over 600 homes for more than 1500 people
-Recycled / repurposed 300+ tons of furniture
-Created 16 jobs, hiring primarily from nonprofit workforce development agencies
-Currently furnishing around six homes per day
WHY WE NEED A THIRD TRUCK
Everyone deserves to live in a home with furniture, and we need your help to make this possible for more low-income families. The demand for our service is near endless - our appointments are fully booked a month in advance and there are thousands of more potential clients in need of furniture. The Chicago Furniture Bank is asking for your support to help us purchase a third truck and hire an associated driver and mover. This expansion will greatly increase our capacity, allowing us to:
-Furnish 750 additional homes annually
-Create two more jobs
-Recycle 200 more tons of furniture annually
CHICAGO FURNITURE BANK OVERVIEW
There are many organizations in Chicago dedicated to helping families in need find safe and secure housing. While putting a roof over a family’s head is an amazing accomplishment, their stories don’t just end there. Supportive housing agencies do not have the resources to provide their clients with furniture, leading many to live in empty spaces for extended periods of time or even indefinitely. Imagine getting a good night’s rest without a bed to sleep on, eating a family meal without a table and utensils, or doing homework without a desk and chair. Furniture, something many people take for granted, is essential to stabilizing our clients' lives as they move into a new home.
We allow clients from our 150 nonprofit partners to hand-select an entire home’s worth of furniture, including beds, couches, dressers, tables, chairs, kitchenware items, and much more. The Chicago Furniture Bank serves the formerly homeless, victims of domestic violence, the mentally and physically disabled, recovering addicts, veterans, and other populations that face poverty. Furthermore, our employees are primarily hired from nonprofit workforce development programs, providing a full-circle social mission that creates jobs in the same communities we serve.
