9th Annual Stowe Family Pub Crawl
It's February, so it's time for us to talk about the annual Stowe Family Pub Crawl! Last year's SFPC was a triumphant return to form, but I'm here to inform you that this year's event will likely be far more subdued. Perhaps the primary reason is that our anniversary falls on a Wednesday this year which (I admit) is a little less than ideal for pub crawling. Perhaps it's because this year is our 9th anniversary and we're storing up for a huge 10th edition. Perhaps it's because Jess and I both have physical reasons for being a little less interested in imbibing large volumes of alcoholic beverages.

So, we're still going to have the SFPC this year, but I doubt it's going to be a high intensity event. Hope your heart is not broken.

You people are incredible. Allow me to remind you of the generosity you've displayed. 2 years ago, covid SFPC, we thought "oh, maybe we just donate to charity." and yall donated OVER $2,000! But last year, we were in person, so I figured "I'll still post the GoFundMe, but meh, people prob wont donate." It's still hard to believe but we ended up coming together to donate $1,682 to City Harvest! I'm still so blown away by that. You are all the best people; I'm so lucky to have you as friends and family.

Well, I guess this is part of the tradition now. I couldn't be happier about it! City Harvest is an amazing organization which collects foods before they are unnecessarily disposed of and distributes them for free to those in need. In NYC, nearly 1,500,000 people suffer food insecurity every day. 1 in 4 kids are in this boat! It's an excellent cause and a great foundation. We would love to see your donation to this amazing cause!

Hi Everyone,

For my Bat Mitzvah Project, I have decided to donate to City Harvest! City Harvest is a non-profit organization that rescues and gives food to New Yorkers that need a little extra help. City Harvest started when they realized that there was a lot of uneaten food and even more food-insecure New Yorkers. Since then, City Harvest has rescued over 950 million pounds of food to help New Yorkers.

This cause is important to me for two reasons.

One of the reasons this is important to me is because of how food waste affects the Earth. When we waste food, we aren't just wasting the food, but we are wasting the resources that made it. Each year the US wastes 108 billion pounds of food, which equals 130 billion meals and 480 billion dollars of food that were thrown away. And once the food is in the landfill, it rots away and creates methane, a very harmful gas to the environment. This adds up to a heavy carbon footprint and detrimental results for the Earth.

The second reason that is important to me is because of how the pandemic has affected the homeless population. As some of you might know, I have taken the subway to and from school every single day for probably the last seven years. And the increase of homeless people on the subway due to the pandemic is very sad. Now by donating, it probably won't give the homeless people a home, but at least it will help City Harvest to continue giving healthy and nutritious food to the homeless and food-insecure New Yorkers.

4x4x48 Challenge & NYC City Harvest
Hi friends,

On Friday, March 4th I will be partaking in the David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge and raising money for NYC City Harvest.

What is NYC City Harvest?

City Harvest is New York City's largest food rescue organization, helping to feed the more than 1.2 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables. They will rescue 61 million pounds of food this year and deliver it, free of charge, to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens and other community partners across the five boroughs. NYC City Harvest’s programs help food insecure New Yorkers access nutritious food and strengthen the local food system, building a path to a food secure future for all.

What is the Challenge?

The challenge was created by former Navy Seal and current ultra-athlete David Goggins to raise money for charity.

The challenge involves running every 4 hours, for 4 miles (6.44 KM) for 48 hours. A little under two marathons in two days. The schedule is as follows:

Run 1: Friday, 4pm

Run 2: Friday, 8pm

Run 3: Saturday, 12am

Run 4: Saturday, 4am

Run 5: Saturday, 8am

Run 6: Saturday, 12pm

Run 7: Saturday, 4pm

Run 8: Saturday, 8pm

Run 9: Sunday, 12am

Run 10: Sunday, 4am

Run 11: Sunday, 8am

Run 12: Sunday, 12pm

Last year, we couldn't be together, but we figured we could do something awesome together. Rather than spend all our money on buying expensive drinks and sampling amazing food together, we asked people to donate. It's hard to believe, but last year we raised $2,180!

So, we figure, why not make a tradition of it! And the best part is, just like last year, Jess and I intend to match up to $2,000 of donations!

This year, we're going to be donating to the City Harvest, an organization that collects foods before they are unnecessarily disposed of and distributes them for free to those in need. As of April 19 2020, New York City has over 300,000 confirmed cases and over 10,000 deaths, deeming itself to be the center of this pandemic. Today, New Yorkers are financially struggling to make ends meet and food banks are struggling to handle the increase in food insecurity. In the battle to combat hunger, I hope you will join me and City Harvest in an effort to end hunger in our communities. City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization that is helping to feed nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables and thousands more who need assistance now as the devastating impact of this pandemic becomes a reality. I’ve been working with City Harvest over the course of five years and have proudly been able to exceed my goals. With the help from both my residential and school communities, hundreds of pounds of food were collected and significant financial donations were made. City Harvest has announced that $27 can help donate and deliver one hundred pounds of food to the people who need it most. All financial donations are welcome and on behalf of City Harvest, I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to feed the people of New York City one day, one meal, one New Yorker at a time. Together we can make a difference!

Family Meal for NYers
Today is my birthday! Typically my birth-day becomes a birth-week or month, celebrating with many of you by my side breaking bread and corking bottles. Over the years the setting may have changed - my home, The Greenbrier, and more recently the Michelin Guide's list of New York restaurants.

Sadly, this is not the case this year womp womp. Don't cry for me Argentina. I will be home safe and satiated in my cozy apartment. If you are reading this, it is likely you will be too. It definitely has me thinking not only of food shortages, but of the incredible experiences and memories I have had where the "family meal" is central.

Job losses are hitting record highs leaving millions to wonder where their next meal might come from, or worse how they are going to feed their families. I simply cannot imagine. Over 1/3 of New York City Pantries have already closed their doors due to unprecedented demand and those that are open are struggling to meet the need. I for one have felt rather helpless during this crisis, told to stay at home while NYC organizations have ceased their volunteer programs. However, there appears to be a simple way to help.

With a donation to City Harvest:
- $52 helps feed a family of 3 for 4 months (don't ask me how they do it)
- $135 help feed 33 NYers for a month.

We can ensure Family Meals continue with parents and children gathered around tables, laughing and comforting each other until this horrendous period is behind us and friends can also gather around our tables once again.

Further, Blackrock is currently matching donations up to $750, 000 so these dollars will go further and needless to say, I will kick it off myself.

City Harvest is committed to rescuing and delivering food for the 2.5MM New Yorkers who were depending on them before the COVID-19 Crisis. For more information go to www.cityharvest.org
