Rising Above: Yenny’s Inspiring Story
In the heart of Quibdó, Colombia, amidst the challenges of displacement and uncertainty, Yenny’s story shines as a beacon of resilience and hope. At a young age, Yenny faced the harsh realities of life when her family of nine siblings was displaced from their home by conflict, forcing them to live in precarious conditions. From these hardships, she learned early about the importance of perseverance and creativity.
Encouraged by her older sister, Yenny ventured into the world of hairdressing and beauty—a decision that would become her lifeline. Despite the obstacles she faced, she embraced this trade with passion, learning the secrets of traditional hairstyles and beauty techniques. This commitment not only provided a source of income for her family but also ignited a spark within her that would lead to greater achievements.
As she navigated her tumultuous path, she also pursued her education, graduating in linguistics and literature. Her academic success is a testament to her determination and desire to break the cycle of hardship. However, when the COVID pandemic hit, the world around her changed dramatically. Job opportunities dwindled, leaving many struggling to make ends meet.
But Yenny did not let adversity define her. Instead, she clung to her hairdressing and beauty project, offering home services that soon became a hit. She dazzled customers with exquisite braids, intricate nail art, and a personal touch that made each experience special. Her dedication turned her passion into a thriving business, supported by a loyal clientele that recognized her talent and hard work.
To assist her in this effort, Colombia’s National Learning Service - - SENA - - provided Yenny with a solid foundation in good practices for small business entrepreneurs. Today, she operates her business from the comfort of her home, allowing her to continue her work while allowing her to her roles as a mother of three and an entrepreneur.
The Doris Mae Case Humanitarian Foundation, a charitable organization based in the USA, is working with SENA to fund the equipment and beauty supplies that Yenny needs to strengthen her home-based business and secure her family’s future. Please consider a donation today that will help to keep her dream alive.
