DUSTY TAILS ANIMAL RESCUE

In a very rural part of South Carolina, a family alerted rescuers that there were many stray dogs on a property who were being treated unkindly by locals. This included a momma dog with what is now her second litter of puppies. We had plans to help trap her later in the week but with the cold weather approaching, everyone had to act fast.

Sadly, two puppies froze overnight and did not make it so time was of the essence. Our director, Kate, met an equally amazing local trapper bright and early and the wait began.

Not too long after, the momma dog appeared and reluctantly went into the trap. The poor girl is absolutely terrified and confused…. She hasn’t met a kind hand in two years. She has a long way to go but this girl has no clue just how amazing her life is about to get.

Next was the search for her babies. After climbing through thick brush and a dilapidated building we secured the babies. Very quickly, we realized that two puppies had either previous injuries or a deformation to both of their front legs. So those two will be heading to our veterinarian while the other two recover in their foster home.

At five short weeks old they’ve lived their entire lives outside, covered and infested in fleas while fighting and searching for food. But after today thanks to SOO many incredible people they have a better future ahead. Filled with warm snuggles, lots of love and yummy food.

Now more than ever, we need our amazing community to step up! We know we have asked a lot over the past few weeks… But rescue work never ends. These babies will need intense medical care to help correct the deformities due to malnutrition. They have a long fight ahead but we are ready to be there every step of the way. Join us in making a profound difference in the lives of animals in need! Dusty Tails Animal Rescue, a 501(c)3 non-profit foster-based organization, has been tirelessly working to save the lives of dogs facing euthanasia in overcrowded rural shelters across South Carolina and Georgia since January 2022.

What began as a humble goal to change the lives of ten dogs in a year quickly surpassed our wildest dreams. In our first year alone, we saved over 170 lives, providing them with a second chance at happiness. With the support of our dedicated team, we were able to transform a small barn into a safe haven for these deserving animals. The barn, equipped with three rooms and private fenced yards accessible through doggy doors, became a beacon of hope for dogs in need.

However, our mission doesn't stop there. In our second year of operation, we doubled our impact, rescuing over 350 pets from rural shelters. We witnessed firsthand the incredible difference we can make in the lives of these vulnerable animals.

To continue expanding our reach and saving even more lives, we are embarking on an ambitious project. We have recently acquired two acres of land, and our vision is to create a doggy paradise—a sanctuary where these dogs can find solace, heal from their past hardships, and learn that their lives are about to change forever.

This new and larger facility will revolutionize what we can achieve as a rescue organization. With ample space, we can accommodate more dogs and provide a calm environment for them to decompress and adjust. It will also serve as a central hub for our dedicated volunteers, offering a comfortable space for interactions with the dogs and facilitating meetings for potential adopters. Furthermore, we aim to strengthen our community's understanding of the impact we can collectively make by educating them on the importance of spaying and neutering.

We understand that this endeavor is ambitious, but we firmly believe in our ability to make a tangible difference. We have witnessed countless lives transformed through our efforts, and we are determined to change even more. However, we cannot achieve this alone.

Meet Maude. Maude has clearly suffered and been through what we can only imagine was a literal living hell. Maude came from our rural shelter partner after a kind person saw her wandering down the road. It was very evident that Maude was dumped after being kept in what we can only imagine was an extremely small and confined space. Maude is a walking skeleton and covered in pressure sores with nails longer than the I can see. This girl should weigh close to 70 pounds and weighed 19 upon intake. She was quite literally hours away from death. Had she had not been saved, she would have suffered a horrible fate, alone. All we can do is thank the universe that she was found. We gave her the name Maude, as it means powerful battler- and this girl is fighting an unimaginable uphill battle-but she is ready to fight and continues to show us she has so much more life to live. Maude is only 1 years old and has no clue just how sweet things are about to get. Maude is currently recovering and will be putting weight on over the next several months. Follow along on Maude's journey as she continues to fight! Maude will need many visits with our vet to ensure she can become the healthiest and happiest version of herself. She will never know anything but love going forward. Right now she is in need of nice fluffy beds, high protein food and treats, and lots of toys! Any support is truly appreciated as we help our girl heal!

Meet Pot Roast, a sweet and brave puppy recently rescued from our rural shelter partner. Pot Roast was found as a stray, and it quickly became clear that he was in serious need of medical attention. The shelter's vet assessed his condition and determined that his injuries were too severe for them to handle. They issued an urgent plea for help, as Pot Roast was in pain and at risk due to overcrowding at the shelter.

We couldn't stand by and let this little guy suffer. We immediately stepped in to get him the care he needs. Radiographs revealed that Pot Roast has a broken growth plate in his leg, a condition requiring specialized surgery by a board-certified surgeon. This procedure involves placing a pin to repair the growth plate, offering Pot Roast the chance to live a normal, pain-free life. Without this surgery, he faces ongoing pain and potential complications.

The cost of this critical surgery is over $5,000, and we need your support to raise the necessary funds. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward Pot Roast's surgery, helping us get him into the operating room as soon as possible. Without funds we will need to wait to schedule his surgery
