About Historic Stanton, Inc.
To maintain and operate a cultural facility to educate, inspire and empower future generations. The facility located at 521 W. Ashley St. in Jacksonville, Florida is the site of the first school for Black children in the City (1868); and where James Weldon Johnson attended and was principal; and where Lift Every Voice and Sing was performed by 500 school children. The current building was erected in 1917.
