Hi Everyone!! Christmas is almost a month away!! As 2020 approaches, I reflect on how many blessings I've received and how much God has worked in my life these last two years in high school.

He led me to Cacalchen, Mexico in the summer of 2018 and my life was changed forever. I went on a mission trip with KUMC GW and met Pastor Kyle and his team at La Academia Nathaniel. I participated in a youth retreat and also helped lead VBS camps at Sacalum and Motul. Visiting Mexico not only gave me an opportunity to sight see and practice Spanish, but also live and breathe a completely different way of life. Even on the hottest day, without any air conditioning and many bugs, I could not stop dancing, engaging, laughing, and serving the generous hearts I encountered, young and old. It was an extremely humbling experience. 



The following spring, I returned and I had the opportunity to volunteer in San Antonio Sodzil. My family and I homestayed with a San Antonio family and now we sponsor the two girls, Evelyn and Vanessa. 

Every December, Pastor Kyle and his teams asks each San Antonio child their one Christmas wish. (ranging from soccer balls to stuffed animals to motorized toy cars) 

I'd like to invite you to give $40 to sponsor a child this holiday season  and help make their wish come true. (any donation will help make an impact! It will cover the cost of the personal gift, trip to the state fair, and the annual Christmas celebration!) Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. Shalom friends of hope! Believe it or not, we are already preparing to celebrate the Christmas season with our precious children in San Antonio Sodzil. Especially during this season we want each child to know that they are known and loved by God, no matter their circumstances. We've been blessed with the chance to bring hope this season to the entire village -- As part of our Christmas activities, we asked every child in the village to send us their personal wish. We received letters from more than 100 children (asking for everything from baby dolls to soccer balls to unicorn stuffed animals!) and would love for you to partner with us in making these wishes come true. 

This year we'd like to invite you to be an Angel of Hope! We are looking for people to give $40 to sponsor a child for the holiday season (but any amount is welcomed and deeply appreciated). Your donation will cover the cost of a personal gift, a trip to the state fair, and our annual Christmas celebration. We truly cannot make this happen without your help and generosity!! About San Antonio Sodzil:

San Antonio Sodzil (SAS) is a small Mayan village in Yucatan, Mexico that is home to about 400 people. We have been partnering with this village for the past ten years. We work closely with the community members, as well as with the albergue - a children's shelter run by the Mexican federal social services. Children come from surrounding towns and stay in the albergue during the weekdays, where they are provided with education, food, and a safe place to stay. Our dream is to sow seeds of hope here in San Antonio Sodzil through education, nutrition, community empowerment, and the transformative love of Christ.

Hello friends and supporters! The students here in San Antonio Sodzil are so excited for the new school year!  Many of these students come from disadvantaged economic and family situations, and education is not something that they take for granted. Though it may seem that their futures have been defined by the patterns of generational poverty, little by little we've seen the seeds of hope start to take root and grow. 

This year, we've had the privilege of witnessing several students graduate from elementary and middle school and can't wait to see them pursue the next stage of their education.  However, this is only possible through your support! We will be covering back-to-school needs for the entire village this year in various forms. We are planning to provide uniforms, sneakers, backpacks, and school supplies to the children in the albergue this year, as well as provide uniform material for each of the 120 kids in the village. We are also raising funds to run our academy store, where students can buy additional school supplies using the "Nathaniel dollars" they earn from completing assignments and showing responsibility and initiative around the academy. In the couple years that we've been running the store, students have learned to set goals and achieve them, as well as to take ownership of their education. At $50 per child, we are aiming to raise $6000 this year.

Please help us reach our goal! More than just providing a child with a backpack or uniform, your partnership will give these students the confidence and nudge to take one step further in their education.  And we want to let these students know that we are with them every step of way!

Additional updates:

Our academy next to the albergue has been rapidly growing! We now offer tutoring, English classes, and music classes to children from the albergue and the San Antonio Sodzil community. This year we are hoping to further transform the quality of education that we offer to our students. 

This year we will have three full-time teachers in the academy: two high-school graduates, Izel and Nataly, and a recent college-graduate, Caitlin.
