Financial Relief for Jacobi Hospital in Bronx, NY
COVID-19 has changed the lives of nearly every American in this country, regardless of race, gender, and socioeconomic class. As every person is at risk, we possess a responsibility to help stop the spread and support those fighting on the frontlines of this virus. A lot of us are lucky in the sense that we do not have to worry about insurmountable hospital bills. Sadly, living in fear of contracting the virus without the financial means to afford treatment is the sad reality for 27 MILLION uninsured Americans.
Hi! My name is Samarth Puthanmadhom, and alongside my friend Angela Choi, we are high-schoolers at the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. We have decided to tackle to try and help during this crisis in our own way.
By teaming up with Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, we are trying to give relief to a community of medical personnel, patients, and others affected by this virus. Located in a low-income community, over 50% of the patients at Jacobi are without health insurance and receive help from the hospital to finance their medical bills. The donations we collect here will help Jacobi acquire any equipment necessary and aid their patients in this time of crisis. Any donations really help us reach our goal of 15k
The Bronx is a hotspot for COVID-19 cases currently, and many of these people in the Bronx cannot receive the Medical Care they need. It is really heart-breaking. As of the moment, there are around 11 THOUSAND Coronavirus cases in the Bronx -- that is about 20% of all the cases in the New York City area.
