The ongoing conflict in Sudan has created the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. More than 10 million people have been displaced, and hundreds of thousands of refugees have made their way to Uganda, which has opened its doors. Most of those fleeing the war are women, children, unaccompanied minors, and the elderly, and the majority have found shelter in Kiryandongo refugee settlement in Northern Uganda, or are struggling to make a living in the capital city of Kampala. Many are school-aged children who are struggling to maintain hope.

At Kele Global, we are aiming to support 500 children with scholastic materials, educational activities, toys, clothes, and other items. Please join us in making their holiday a happy one.

Dear Family and Friends,

My name is Hashem Mekki. I am a Sudanese American who grew up in Sudan during an earlier war, before immigrating to Egypt and then the USA. Ten months ago, war broke out in Sudan once again, creating one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world and causing the displacement of over 8 million people. My own family is still stuck in Khartoum as the fighting continues. There is little food and few services. 

I now live in Uganda, which is serving as a safe haven for refugees, including Sudanese. Thousands of Sudanese families have arrived here after harrowing journeys, leaving their belongings and often family members behind. In Uganda, most are staying in a refugee settlement which is overflowing with new arrivals. Most lack access to secure jobs and have been struggling to put food on the table or send their children to school.

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches  (approximately March 10-April 9), please extend help to enable them to buy food and ensure their children are healthy and safe.

All donated funds will go directly to supporting 500 vulnerable refugee families in Uganda (mostly women, children, and elderly) to purchase food items. Your contributions will make a difference in the lives of people that have experienced far too much adversity.

In Uganda, schools have been closed since March 2020, and many students have spent almost two years at home without any structured learning. Education is the future for Ugandan kids and their families, and for those without access to distance learning, the future feels dark. Kele Global is a non-profit organization that supports children and youth in Uganda to reach their full potential through sports and education. Right now, nearly 100 vulnerable children aged 3-18, all of whom participate in Kele Global’s sports club in Naguru, Kampala area, are preparing to go back to school in January. Their families have suffered economically under lockdown and are struggling to cover their children’s basic expenses.

With only a $5 donation this Christmas, you can provide a child with a set of basic school supplies in preparation for the return to school. Offer more, and you can support additional activities: Kele Global is organizing community cleanup drives, remedial literacy classes for children who need them, and weekly sports programs for all participants with a focus on building children’s holistic skills.
