Sparrow is our farm dog and protector of all of the animals here at Little Hill Sanctuary.

Recently we rushed Sparrow to the ER vet after out of nowhere she collapsed.

After a full day of diagnostics Sparrow was diagnosed with IMHA.

IMHA or Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia is a rare and life threatening auto immune disease. This disease causes dogs' immune systems to attack their own red blood cells. It leaves dogs weak, anemic, and unable to get oxygen to their vital organs. The survival rate of IMHA is low. And we are devastated by this prognosis. But Sparrow's vet believes we caught this very early and she does have a chance to make it through.

The treatment for IMHA is very intense and very expensive.

Sparrow has spent the past week in the veterinary hospital undergoing an intensive treatment of blood transfusions and immunosuppressive medications to help her stabilize and gain strength to fight this.

We have already paid $2312 for Sparrow's care over the first 24 hours. And we have now spent another $13,032 for her hospital stay and treatment over the past week. Then once Sparrow is stable and we are able to bring her home she will need continuous ongoing treatment from the hospital for months to come.

I cannot tell you what Sparrow means to our family and our sanctuary. She is such a special soul. We would all be lost without her and the animals are missing her fiercely right now.

Urgent request for our African Street Dog Rescue initiative.

Rabies has been spreading in the Shinyanga area of Tanzania over the past three weeks. Eight individuals have been bitten and one person has even died.

Our local vets in Tanzania are on the ground ready to vaccinate over 2000 village dogs against rabies to stop the fear and stop the spread of rabies before a mass culling becomes inevitable.

We are asking for $2000 to administer 2000 vaccines and spread the word from village to village about our vacation clinics before more lives are lost.

We are out of funds for our African initiative after constructing the first ever animal shelter in the Mwanza area of Tanzania and we need your support to respond to this rabies outbreak before it's too late.

In less than one year African Street Dog Rescue has spayed and neutered over 500 street dogs, vaccinated over 5000 dogs against rabies, responded to two large rabies outbreaks to stop mass cullings, rescued and rehomed over 40 dogs and four cats, and built a permanent dog sanctuary outside of Mwanza where medically fragile street dogs can recover and be adopted into forever homes. And we have achieved all of this because of your incredible support for this daunting initiative halfway across the Earth.

Now we need your help again to stop this rabies outbreak and minimize lives lost.

Urgent request for $1000 to save dogs from mass culling on the remote island of Ukurewe on Lake Victoria, Tanzania!

Several rabid dogs were recently discovered on Ukurewe Island. This island has very limited medical access for both people and animals and is only accessible by boat. A request by locals was put out to cull the dog population in response to the rabies outbreak. Our team has intervened and offered to respond, instead, with a 2-day mass rabies vaccination clinic in March. The government of Tanzania has agreed to a temporary stay to the shootings and given African Street Dog Rescue veterinarians 2,000 rabies vaccines - $4000 USD of vaccines! Sadly, it is cheaper to shoot dogs than vaccinate them and we are running out of time! We are now desperately looking for donations to pay for local veterinarians, vet technicians, and volunteers to travel to this remote island in March. In addition to vaccinating 2,000 dogs against rabies - our team will also be able to tend to immediate medical needs of local dogs, offering veterinarian services that are usually not available.

It is only $1000 USD to send a team to Ukurewe Island for a 2-day mass clinic.

So here it goes...

As many of you know our sanctuary has been flooded under several feet of rain and mud since December. The animals have been displaced from their pastures for months. And our property is in ruin. We need to move for the safety and security of the 100+ animals rescued from abuse, neglect, and slaughter we have promised to love and protect for the rest of their lives.

This week I shared that the farm next door has been listed for sale. And also I shared that although it would be the perfect solution to all of our problems it seemed like something that as a small grassroots nonprofit we could never afford.

But your response was overwhelming.❤️ You all were so incredibly positive that we could do this. That we could buy that farm. That we could get the animals to safety. That you gave me hope in a time when I have felt hopeless.

So at your suggestion we started a Go Fund Me. The goal is one million dollars. And although it seems unimaginable that we could reach that goal. You all reminded me that it is possible. It could go viral. And it could become the miracle that we need after so so many hardships.

A lot of you have supported us through this natural disaster. And so I do not want to ask you all to give too much. So I am asking you this.

We are calling this campaign One for One Million. Because we are asking all of our supporters and anyone who sees this call to action to give just one dollar. But we are also asking you to share our story with your friends, family, and followers and ask that they do the same. Give one dollar and share. We are hoping that a millions of humans can come together all over the world for the animals to make this happen.

We never could have imagined the devastation this year would hold for the animals. The sanctuary has been decimated by two solid months of non stop floods with no end in sight. Everything is a disaster. Rain and hail has been coming down for 60 days. Everything is flooded. California has declared a state of emergency. And we still have weeks of rain ahead. We are in crisis mode. We desperately need to find a new safe forever property for the sanctuary.

The past years here we have done so much good. Saved so many lives. Changed so many hearts. And provided permanent life long sanctuary to hundreds of animals rescued from abuse, neglect, and slaughter. None of which we could have done without this land.

And although it has not been something that we have wanted to face, the reality is that this farm is just not safe enough for our Little Hill Sanctuary.

We urgently need a new farm that will be a safe forever home for our sanctuary and the 100+ rescued animals we care for. I know this is a big undertaking but I also know with your continued love and support for these animals together we can do anything.

We have been searching and there are so many amazing properties out there just waiting to welcome the animals and help us save so many more lives. We just need your support to make it happen. We need to raise a down payment to secure a new property as soon as possible.

This new land will be a sanctuary for all. Not only will we welcome so many more animals, we will also welcome our community through events, education, and expanded volunteer opportunities. It has been challenging to face the reality that we need to make this happen. But now that things are in motion we are so excited about the possibilities and all of the new lives we can save. We just need your help to make it happen.

Little Hill Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit farmed animal rescue and sanctuary that seeks to create a more kind world through rescuing and protecting animals from cruelty, providing them with sanctuary and compassionate care, and combating speciesism through promoting veganism.

Late Sunday around midnight without warning a flash flood tore through the sanctuary. Many of the pastures flooded and we spent all night in the pouring rain bringing nearly 100 animals to safety on higher ground.

We are so grateful that no lives were lost and everyone is now safe despite some minor injuries. That is what is important. And that is what we are trying to focus on.

But the devastating destruction and property loss we have suffered is something we never could have imagined.

Fencing is damaged. Walls have been torn from buildings. Feed storage has been completely flooded. Tools, halters, pumps, generators, lumber and fencing supplies have all been washed away and replaced by so much littered trash from nearby roadways everywhere.

We have a lot of damage to assess and we have a lot of clean up to do. The losses will be in the tens of thousands if not more. And the rain still has not stopped.

Please help the sanctuary rebuild. We can not do this without our community of support. We need you now more than ever.❤

African Street Dog Rescue was formed in June 2023 by Little Hill Sanctuary founder Camilla - and her best friend from childhood, Anna Johnson. Anna and her family moved to Mwanza, Tanzania in January 2023 and immediately saw the terrible living conditions of the street dogs. In a city of 2 million, no animal shelter, rescue, or sanctuary was in place to deal with the crisis. Several local ex-pats would take in dogs when able and try to find them homes - but often the dogs needing care would have contagious mange and other unknown diseases which would put their own dogs at risk.

Camilla and Anna started African Street Dog Rescue with the hope of achieving 3 main goals: 1) reduce the street dog population and their suffering through spay & neuter clinics held throughout the city, 2) build an animal shelter to take in the most vulnerable of the street dogs that could not continue living on the streets, and 3) educate locals on animal rights and animal advocacy.

Partnering together with SPCAI, we have been able to begin to achieve all 3 of our goals! We have hosted multiple spay & neuter clinics over the past 9 months - fixing hundreds of dogs and vaccinating thousands. We have built the beginnings of a dog sanctuary on our vet's donated property. Eventually, we will be able to care for 30-40 medically fragile dogs at this site. Lastly, we have begun to educate locals about animal rights - advocating for proper feeding and care of locally owned dogs.

We have the walls of the sanctuary up! We have 4 isolation kennels built for new dogs to come in. We currently have 4 residents on site (2 sweet dogs that are too fragile to return to the streets and will remain at the sanctuary). Our next big project is bringing water to the sanctuary! Our caregiver is currently hauling water to the sanctuary by hand in buckets. With $500, we will be able to purchase a 5000 liter water tank, have it installed, and have running water onsite!
