On January 7th, a series of devastating wildfires broke out in Los Angeles County, including the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hurst Fire, and Woodley Fire. Driven by extreme high winds, these fires have caused unprecedented destruction, displacing families and leaving behind significant structural damage throughout the region. In response, we’re raising funds to support Community Brigade , a trailblazing nonprofit working to bridge the resource gap between professional first responders and local communities during disaster events.
Community Brigade collaborates with the Los Angeles County Fire Department to empower volunteers with the training and tools needed to better prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Their efforts include wildfire prevention through home inspections, individualized risk reports, and direct support during active wildfires, including firefighting, evacuation, and community outreach. Currently serving seven pilot communities in the Santa Monica Mountains, their mission is to expand this vital program to at-risk areas across the Western U.S.
As staff members of the Excursion Club at UCSB, a student-run, volunteer organization committed to connecting people with the outdoors, we are driven by our mission to make outdoor activities accessible to everyone. Through affordable gear, resources, and community support, we empower individuals to step out of their comfort zones and explore nature. The outdoors have been a source of joy and inspiration for us, and now we’re taking action to give back to protect these spaces and the people who call them home.
Your donation will go directly toward outfitting Community Brigade volunteers and vehicles, helping them continue their critical work and expand their reach. Together, we can help build stronger, safer, and more resilient communities.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
