My name is Chase Griffin and I am a football quarterback at UCLA. Throughout the month of May, GoFundMe is hosting a College Charity Challenge to show the power of giving on college campuses nationwide. I hope you'll join me in this challenge by donating to The Los Angeles Food Bank Weekend Backpack Program. The Los Angeles Food Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that distributes food and other essentials to seniors, youth, and those in need.
The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Weekend Backpack Program supplies weekend meals to LA school school children who rely on school meals for food. School children are at greatest risk of food insecurity on the weekends and during the Summer. The fact that thousands of LA schoolchildren are worried about their next meal while trying to learn is heart-breaking. This program allows us to address that problem directly. #WeFeedLA
More about the LA Food Bank:
The LA Food Bank services over 800,000 people each month with 1/4 of food going directly to local children. Specifically, the LA Food Bank's Backpack program provides food for children in need over the weekend. This program provides nutritionally balanced and kid-friendly meals to students from schools participating in the Network for Healthy California. Over 82% of students in the program qualify for free or reduced-priced meals. To ensure children do not go hungry over the weekend, the Backpack program delivered over 7,700 backpacks full of food last year alone.
