About Lukuru Wildlife Research Foundation

Conservation is about people. We use a human needs approach to partnering with local people who live with the bonobos. The Lukuru Wildlife Research Project (LUKURU PROJECT) works in the remote interior of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our mission is to integrate scientific research and education for bonobo conservation. An entirely field-based program since 1992, the LUKURU PROJECT has continued to demonstrate a substantial record of successful activity; pairing conservation of bonobos and their habitat by influencing, encouraging and assisting the regional community. Working in close collaboration with the local population, local authorities, a regionally-based nationally recognized non-governmental organization, and the Institut Congo pour la Conservation de la Nature (ICCN; the national department of parks), the LUKURU PROJECT effectively engages in conservation initiatives through a human needs approach.
