Hello, my name is Eleni Piniros, and I am a student at Edgemont High School in Scarsdale, New York. I started a club at my school over a year ago called Beads for Malala, inspired by the Malala Fund.
The Malala Fund aims to give girls the right to a secondary education throughout the world. The Malala Fund uses the money raised to invest in education advocates and activists fighting against policies preventing girls from receiving an education in their local communities. This movement inspired me since I am luckily a girl who can attend school every day.
My club, Beads for Malala, is a high school organization. Every month we come together to make bracelets and sell them at our school. In addition to selling bracelets, we hold local bake sales. Bake and bracelet sales are a great way to unite my community and create awareness for the sake of a good cause.
Because of the importance of this issue, with the help of my community, I was able to create an assembly on October 11th, The International Day of the Girl. The goal of the assembly was to raise awareness around my school about the importance of girls having the right to receive an education. I connected with Psychologist Dr. Barbara Kapetanakes who kindly spoke about girl empowerment, the importance of an education, and how having an education affects female earning power and the ability to make choices and have more options throughout life.
I hope to expand the scope of my efforts and create positive change. All girls having a right to an education is extremely important to me because it pains me that not all girls have the ability to go to school and create a better life.
Please share this fundraiser with anyone you know who feels strongly about girls having equal access to an education.
All money donated will be directly sent to the Malala Fund, fighting for girls to have the right to education worldwide. Please help me to support this important cause. Any donations are deeply appreciated. Thank you!
