Here we are in 2024, nearly 10 years after Mallory was born and diagnosed with Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome which is a rare genetic disorder that effects 1 in 350,000 children born world wide. Mal's Pals Foundation was started to network with and support families whose lives are changed by rare disease diagnoses. As a 501c3 nonprofit, the money raised for MPF goes in part, to like minded non profit organizations like Best Buddies, Adaptive Sports New England, Boys and Girls Club Adaptive Programming, Raising Harts, and more. We donate direct to family funding for life saving medical equipment, adaptive equipment, trainings, and "luxury" items that typically aren't covered by insurance like Augmentative Communication Devices, walkers, and trikes. We have been privileged to provide free kids events more recently, bringing awareness and inclusion for people with rare diseases into our communities.
If you do not have the honor of knowing Ryan, he is my husband, a father (to four! including Miss Mal), a hard working small business owner, and Boston Firefighter. To celebrate our daughter's 10th year, Ryan will run the Boston Marathon for Mal's Pals Foundation and complete his typical 100 miles for Best Buddies. Pounding the pavement for 126.2 miles so that families like ours, can be recognized, helped and given more opportunities when navigating life with disabilities.
Ryan has been putting in a lot of physical work over the last few years; strengthening himself mentally and physically so that he is the best version of himself for his family. For the last 8 years (even through the pandemic) Ryan has biked well over 1,000 miles for the Best Buddies Challenge on Team Mallory, and that is not including all the training. As a last minute addition to the original team in 2015, (Shout out to the Dorsey family!) Ryan pedaled from Boston to Hyannis because our friends gave us an opportunity to bring our idea to life, and so became Mal's Pals Foundation. Since then he has been a leader for our Best Buddies team, for our non profit and a role model to other fathers who have a loved one with special needs.
Ryan is a dedicated Dad; he's not just a regular Dad, he's a cool Dad, super Dad, and a very proud special needs Dad. He works so hard for us and donates so much of his time and money to everyone else. Please help him fundraise for both of his goals this year.
Interested in joining our team? There is still time to join us this June for the Best Buddies Challenge, email [email redacted] for more information! Unfortunately, our marathon team is full but we are working on securing more bibs for next year!
