Metropolis Santa Monica is fundraising
Help us save Metropolis!
On May 18th, Metropolis was given a 3-day notice to pay an entire $44k back rent bill or face potential eviction. Please help us raise these funds to keep Metropolis in Santa Monica so we can continue being a center for community, a place of connection, an agent of change, a space of peace and refuge, and a place where we can care for the most vulnerable around us.
Our donation-based coffee house, Metro Café, one of our primary sources of income, was forced to close due to COVID for 11 months. Then, shortly after reopening and trying to rebuild our clientele and operation, county officials suddenly changed the regulations we were required to meet, forcing us to close once again and spend a lot of extra time and funds completing renovations. After 6 months, we are still waiting to be approved to reopen.

What is Metropolis?
Metropolis is a non-profit organization that serves Santa Monica’s most vulnerable - our neighbors experiencing homelessness and low income seniors and families. We are a gathering place for everyone, a resource for those in need, a place to get a warm meal and groceries. We are making a difference at the heart of Santa Monica. A place where the most vulnerable can come and experience true community, where the invisible become visible.
Over the Covid 19 Pandemic, we have managed to keep our soup kitchen and food pantry open in Santa Monica, serving 35,000 people, providing 15,000 meals, 63,000 bags of groceries, 35,000 hygiene items as well as hosting a number of events.
Metro Cafe | We operate our cafe on a donation based model (5 star rating on Yelp!) Pay what you want, allowing customers to buy a drink for those in need. Coffee has become a catalyst for community.

Our neighbor's pantry | Serves low income seniors and families in need with bags of groceries weekly. Providing not just food but much needed care and social interaction.
Sunday Lunches | We provide free, nutritious lunches and hygiene products for our neighbors in need. Volunteers start at 11:00am to 3:00pm every Sunday to cook, pack box lunches and hygiene kits plus clean up.
Community Center | Our spacious indoor seating area and large outdoor courtyard is a place for everyone to relax. We’ve hosted a number of events, such as Unsheltered Art, featuring artwork from our neighbors experiencing homelessness and numerous post-school activities and senior groups.
Losing Metropolis will have a big impact on the most vulnerable in Santa Monica. We need your help so we can continue to serve the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the people of Santa Monica.
How can you help?
Donate if you can, spread the word, or volunteer your time.
Covid has been difficult for us, and while we managed to keep our food pantry and soup kitchen open, our Cafe has been closed which has meant a stream of income lost. We depend solely on private donations, and volunteer help. Our reserves are completely tapped, so please consider partnering with us. Every gift matters.
