Hello,
Many of you have been watching the story of Sully unfold on Social Media, but, for those of you who haven't here is the story up until now.
Milo's Sanctuary was contacted via social media and through volunteers at a local high kill shelter in Los Angeles about this beautiful cat with a badly broken jaw that couldn't eat or drink but was still purring, trying to give headbonks and loved everyone.
Out President, Michele, heard his story and saw his photos and absolutely knew that we had to help this lost soul. What happened to Sully to have this happen to him we might never know but what we do know is that he was not hit by a car, but the injuries he sustained are from blunt force trauma.
Sully went immediately to our veterinarian and after x-rays, bloodwork and a full examine it was determined that the mandibular synthesis was broken (the bottom jaw where it meets in the front) so he had surgery to fix it. We thought he would be fine and we brought him back to the Sanctuary to heal.
He was doing fine but the staff noticed a few drops of blood coming out of his mouth, we called the vet and was told it could be from the surgery so to keep an eye on it. We did, it stopped and we thought that was what it was. But then a couple of days later the staff found his cage full of blood and he was actively bleeding. Sully was rushed back to our veterinarians and they moved swiftly to stop the bleeding and assess the situation. Under anesthetic a full mouth exam and a more extensive set of xrays were taken. It looked like he had an abscess in the back of his mouth that ruptured and the xrays revealed a bad break in the back of his right jaw. One of the shards of bone keeps poking into a vein and that's the source of the bleeding.
Off to a specialist we went and he suggested a feeding tube in order to allow the jaw to rest and avoid the bone puncturing the vein. Sully also had a very bad infection and he was put on two different antibiotics, pain meds and the feeding tube was inserted.
Sully goes in for surgery on 4/7/22 - he still has a long way to go but he's truly worth every ounce of love, tears and funds we have invested. We cannot tell you enough how magical and special Sully is. Even after all he's been through he loves everyone he meets and is gentle and kind.
Michele has often mentioned his personality and ability to forgive and love even through the pain reminds her very much of Tommy.
Thank you from all of us at Milo's Sanctuary, Inc. but especially Sully for giving him a second chance at a new life.
All donations are tax-deductible and will go directly to Sully's care - we are happy to share the invoices upon request.
