New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program was founded in 1992 to stop the random discarding and slaughter of noncompetitive and injured racehorses by providing an immediate refuge and safety-net. The Program arranges transportation and provides rehabilitation and transitional training for over 400 horses a year. New Vocations focuses on education with a three prong approach: Educate the owners and trainers to encourage responsible handling of their retirees; educate the equestrian community on the versatility of the racing breeds; and educate the horses in preparation for new careers and homes.
