Help Kensington Building Collapse Victims!
On September 2, two buildings collapsed on Front St. near the York-Dauphin station while residents were inside, trapping two residents underneath the rubble, rendering others homeless, and suddenly destroying a beloved long-time small local business. The building that triggered the collapse was undergoing construction work including work on its foundation.
One of the buildings that collapsed on Thursday night was home of two longtime community residents, Wilfredo Maldonado and Silvia Caballeros, who were inside as it collapsed around them, trapping them inside the rubble. Wilfredo and Silvia were pulled from the debris by fellow Kensington resident David Velazquez, who was driving by and stopped to help. But they have been made homeless, having lost all of their belongings, which an inspector deemed unretrievable from the site.
The Philadelphia Liberation Center is fighting to win a neighborhood-wide freeze on construction until the city can guarantee safety at all sites. While the community builds this movement to make sure that no one else is victim to a similar tragedy, we need to make sure Silvia and Wilfredo have their basic needs met. Most urgently, they need to find a new place to live, which means paying all the costs of moving into a new home including a security deposit. They are also left without clothes, furniture or other essential personal items. Please make an urgently needed donation to help cover these costs!

El 2 de septiembre, dos edificios se derrumbaron en Front Street cerca de la estación York-Dauphin con personas adentro, atrapando a dos residentes debajo de los escombros, dejando a otros sin hogar, y destruyendo de repente una pequeña empresa local querida desde hace mucho tiempo. El edificio que provocó el derrumbe estaba en obras de construcción, incluido en sus cimientos.
