UPDATE JULY 8, 2024
While we have a plan, we still are not out of the woods yet. The plan costs quite a bit of money - transport, boarding to decompress, board during training, training, vet visits, etc. to those that have donated and shared thank you from the bottom of our hearts on behalf of Charlie. Please continue to do so as we make a final push for Charlie to reach our goal.
UPDATE JUNE 30, 2024
Apologies for the silence regarding Charlie. We needed to make a plan for Charlie and needed time to do this. We have an opportunity to send him send him to a board and train where he will decompress. He has been placed on a waiting list to for an evaluation to enter a service dog training program. After he decompresses, he will be evaluated and then hopefully enter the program. We will be working with a new not for profit whose founder is an animal behaviorist who regularly trains dogs to become service dogs. The focus of this new not for profit is to save pitties who are at risk of euthanasia list and place them in this service dog training program so they can become service dogs. This program will have a focus on placement with veterans. Our hope is he will be accepted into this program; if not he will still need a family and a home. Realize, if he is not accepted into this program, this does not mean there is anything wrong with him regarding behavior; not all dogs can be trained to work as service dogs.
He is not safe until we have the funds to send him to the kennel. We cannot send him to the kennel until we have the funds; please see our GFM link:
https://gofund.me/a82ccf6d. For all those who pledged money to send him to boarding, please honor your pledges. It was with these pledges and some of the donations we have received that we were able to secure him a spot but we need the funds raised in order to send him to boarding. Kennels are overflowing right now and we are not able to send him without the funds in hand. The family has given us to July 10th to move him; we are desperately trying to get him out by then.
TO all those who have shared, posted, cross posted and pledged or sent funds; thank you, we are very appreciative of the support. Sometimes it takes a village to save one life. All those in rescue know how overwhelmed we all are now and have been these past few years. It is beyond heartbreaking to see all of these animals being euthanized every day, everywhere. Foster homes are difficult to find; kennels are overflowing with dogs who are not moving; many shelters are full and turning away dogs and many rescue groups are no longer able to take in dogs. We cannot take dogs in if we cannot adopt them out. Sadly, the family veterinarians are now euthanizing, which is the plan for Charlie. The local shelter is full and cannot even take him in(we have been checking regardless); even a shelter is better than euthanasia. People are not adopting dogs, they are surrendering dogs for ridiculous reasons; and then purchasing another puppy from the scores of backyard breeders who are dumping thousands of puppies, into a system which was already broken and overcrowded with dogs. Their greed is killing innocent animals every single day.
This is not any fault of Charlie- it is that of people- as always. His life is at risk because of mistakes people make. This is not right, as we all know. The realities to now work in rescue is to know every morning we will brace ourselves for a day of new calls and emails from people in need of help for them and their animals; of dogs being surrendered because their human cannot/will not keep them. Emails and calls from shelters pleading with us to save this dog- he/she has until noon tomorrow- complete with photos, stories, who they were, playful, faithful, loyal loving companions who were discarded like garbage and dumped in an overcrowded shelter. Another day where we know we truly cannot save them all- and we live with this horrible reality; we do our best. We are tired of trying to convince families to please work with their dog- not to surrender them to an unknown fate- not to euthanize. We find ourselves caring more about their dog than they do. We try not to judge; we just want to save the animal in need. Another night where we go to bed thinking of the animals and people we are trying to help; with the picture in our mind of that dog who has until noon tomorrow and with the harsh reality that we have no one to save that life; no place to send that dog.
If you are able to send funds to help us get Charlie to safety, please note, we are the only group collecting funds. The links below are the only links we are using, Please be careful as there are many scammers out there who are re routing funds to themselves or who are claiming another group has stepped in with new funding links. We noted this on one of our Charlie posts. You can email us or go to our website
www.paws-li.org to assure you have the correct information- sad we have to provide this warning, but we do.

CRITICALLY IMPORTANT - Charlie's family will euthanize him in two weeks. Someone PLEASE help him now. There was another fight between him and the resident dog. His family won't keep him any longer - he has truly run out of time. Charlie desperately needs to be rehomed; it will literally save his life. This situation is not his fault. WE HAVE NO FUNDS TO BOARD HIM TO BUY HIM SOME TIME - ANY AMOUNT WILL HELP - MAYBE EVEN A FOSTER/ADOPTION HOME?
Meet Charlie! He is two year old red nose male Pittie, weighing about 60lbs, and needs a new home. He was rescued as a pup about a year and a half ago but he’s not getting along well with the other dog in the family. We do not know if it is Charlie or the resident dog. Charlie is good with people and kids- he lives with a two year old now.
Charlie is very energetic and would love a nice yard to play in. He likes going for walks on the leash and enjoys car rides. He loves cuddles and attention, and he really loves his treats!! Charlie is fully trained, including crate, neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He understands basic commands like sit, paw and lay down. The family has been
working with Pioneers for Animal Welfare Society Inc in attempts to find Charlie a new home for a few months- but no one has stepped up. His situation is urgent-sadly, he needs to move out. WON’T SOMEONE COME MEET HIM AND GIVE HIM A CHANCE? PLEASE…..
