As you may know, India is facing one of the largest humanitarian crises of our time. In response to this emergent situation, I am reaching out to friends and family to support the immediate and long-term recovery effects. 

I understand that some of you may have already donated to COVID related charities and some of you might be looking for appropriate organizations to support. I have two simple requests for you: Please do not wait any longer to donate and please share this fundraiser with as many people you know as possible. As entitled products of the 21st century- food, water, and shelter are seldom the needs on our mind.  PRATHAM Youth Leaders recently traveled to Aurangabad in order to inspire hope and strengthen education in local villages. While there we analyzed what would best help the children, and came up with the following idea: a vegetable garden.

The vegetable garden, however small would teach the kids new tricks to apply in their agricultural lifestyles. For instance, the kids can learn about organic farming and water irrigation. These two things will not only help the children by expanding their agricultural knowledge, but will also benefit the Indian subcontinent as a whole. The implementation of organic farming will help reduce soil and water contamination which is crucial in a place like India where pollution levels are extremely high.  A fresh vegetable garden will also allow many children in the village to eat, as well as promote the local economy as some food could be sold in the market.

The vegetable garden needs $3,000 for creation and maintenance over the next three years, due to the advanced drip irrigation system that would be implemented.

Being in India the past couple of weeks has opened our eyes and we know that this vegetable garden will change lives. Please help us in raising this money, and do remember- a little can go a long way!

The Second Chance program was started in 2011 to give dropout students, especially girls, a chance to complete their Secondary School education and acquire the skills necessary for employment. It is a 15 month program that targets young girls and women who have dropped out of school and helps them pass their Secondary School Examination.

Apart from that it also aims to raise awareness about educating girls and women so that they can break the regressive barriers of caste and religion.

Main objectives of the program
To help girls and young women from underserved communities complete their secondary school education.

To provide market relevant vocational skills to the students in order to increase their employability.

To focus on personality development and confidence building to make them strong individuals.
