WHO ARE WE?

WHAT IS THIS EVENT?

4x4x48: On March 5-7, We will be running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. 

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? 

The 4x4x48 is also a fundraiser for a charity or cause of our choice. This year, we will be raising money for the San Diego community that have been negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Our goal is to also draw as much attention as possible to the unique nature of this event, then redirect that attention towards supporting community in need.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT TO US?

As a San Diego resident, we feel compelled to utilize what's at our disposal (physicality, people, influence) to generate support for others. 

WHO ARE WE DONATING TO?

Every penny of the money will be donated to the San Diego Foundation. Grants to nonprofits are made on a rolling basis as funding becomes available. Fundraising will continue through the outbreak and recovery phases of the crisis, and grantmaking will adapt to emerging needs.

WHAT IS OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL?

We want to raise at least $3,000. We have a powerful community/network of people and we know we can hit this. Collectively we have an opportunity to make a significant impact.

WHO DOES IT HELP?

Your donation will help San Diegans most affected by coronavirus and the local nonprofit organizations in our community working to address their needs. To date, the fund has made more than 240 grants and supported more than 200 organizations, but a significant need still remains.

HOW MUCH OF MY DONATION GOES TOWARD COVID-19 RELIEF?

100% of your donation will go to organizations helping San Diegans impacted by the public health and economic crisis. To date, the San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund has mobilized millions from a growing list of partners and online contributors. The Fund complements the work of public health officials and expands local capacity to address the many needs created by the coronavirus crisis.

Hi, my name is Alex Gordon. I am a Boy Scout in Troop 750, in Carlsbad California, and I am raising money for my Eagle Scout project. 

While on a 14 day backing trip in New Mexico I was involved in a life saving effort that might have turned out differently had we had prompt access to an AED or Automatic External Defibrillator. 

For my Eagle project I have decided to do my part to increase awareness about and access to AEDs in the community. Part of my project is to raise funds to purchase at least one (hopefully more than one) AED to be placed within my community. The cost for a quality AED is approximately $1,300. 

I have partnered with San Diego Project Heart Beat whose mission is to save lives by establishing awareness, education and immediate access to Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) throughout the city and county of San Diego. San Diego Project Heart Beat's objective is to make Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) as accessible as fire extinguishers throughout our community.

All proceeds raised through my Eagle project will be donated to the San Diego Project Heart Beat Fund at the San Diego Foundation.

On April 22, 2020, the 50th anniversary of the original Earth Day, a virtual climate uprising is planned all over the world. In San Diego, local organizations are collaborating to create a full afternoon of speakers, art and music, information, and interactive actions – all online and open to everyone. The coronavirus pandemic ended our plans for a massive rally and march, but cannot silence our collective voice!

We must urgently confront three converging threats – the climate crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the deepening economic recession – to create a safe and just future. We’re all in this together. 

Throughout San Diego's Virtual Climate Uprising, we are organizing to raise funds for The San Diego Foundation's San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund, which is rapidly deploying resources to nonprofit organizations that are supporting local workers and families most affected by the coronavirus crisis.
