Welcome to the WashU Varsity Swimming and Diving 2024 Cancer Awareness Fundraiser! This will take place during our first home meet of the season against SLU Swimming and Diving.

No one fights cancer alone. Our team is fundraising through Swim Across America because we believe in their mission and want to help give more families hope. The researchers we fund are in the St. Louis region and are the next generation of cancer pioneers. Without Swim Across America's early-stage funding, they cannot conduct trials that lead to breakthroughs and save lives. For every dollar SAA grants, recipient labs secure three or more dollars in new funding they might otherwise have not received. Please consider donating to our page! Fundraising in honor of Detective Dave Walsh
It’s that time of the year again when you might notice some of our officers looking a little scruffy. No, there is no shortage of razors. Once again we are participating in “No Shave November”, a month long fundraising campaign where officers make a donation and forgo shaving in order to raise money and awareness for cancer research. This year, all funds raised will be donated to Swim across America and will go directly to fund cancer research and patient programs. We decided to choose this organization at the request of Ken Walsh, the brother of Det. David Walsh, who tragically passed away from brain cancer in July of 2022. Ken began fundraising and swimming for this cause once his brother David was diagnosed. Dave always wanted to help every person he could. Raising money for cancer research and patient programs is just another way Dave’s legacy will continue to help the next person in need.

22 mile Open Water Swim to Fight Cancer

For years I have been on the Weatherby Healthcare Oncology team, partnering with Medical Oncologists to provide much needed patient coverage to rural communities across the USA. I have also been a swimmer for most of my life, and over the last few years have loved open water marathon swims!

I am combining the two, and on June 11th I will swim 22 miles across lake Keowee from Cliffs Marina to Seneca Marina.

I'm raising money to benefit Swim Across America, and any donation will help make an impact.

Every 15 minutes, 50 Americans are diagnosed with cancer. But, the good news is that every year millions of Americans are beating cancer through advancements in treatments.

Swim Across America hosts benefit swims to raise money for our network of doctors and researchers who are the pioneers developing new cures and treatments to this dreaded disease.

Swim Across America has raised more than $65M to fund cancer research and supports some of the top cancer research hospitals in the country.
